Icon Challenge FAQ

Rules:

1. The icon challenge is bi-weekly and will, besides in special cases, be posted on the 2nd and 16th of every month. The submission timeline is two weeks, with the last day of submission being the 1st or the 15th. Only after the second challenge of the month has been posted, will the submissions of the first be put up for evaluation.

2. Unless otherwise specified, all canons of the franchise are welcome - manga, anime, musicals, movies and doujinshi. Fanart may be used for challenge icons if the art is by the icon maker themselves or if they have been granted written permission from the artist. This permission has to be sent in a PM to the community mods for the fanart icon to be accepted as a challenge submission.

3. Every icon challenge will have a prompt that may take various shapes. It can be an image, lyrics, a concept, a theme or a colour. In every case, it is up to the icon makers to interpret the prompt as they wish. However, note that the prompt has to be incorporated in the icon some way.

3a. A maximum of three icons may be submitted by the same user to a challenge, unless otherwise specified.

3b. Icons submitted to the challenge may not have been posted to any fandom or icon communities (nor the maker’s personal journal) before the winners of the challenge have been announced.

3c. Icons are submitted by commenting with the image link to the relevant icon challenge entry (where all comments will be screened). Please make sure that the image link is direct and that the image isn’t friend’s locked or otherwise inaccessible to the mods.

4. After the second icon challenge of the month has been announced, a post will go up with all submitted icons of the first. It is then left up to all users of the community (icon makers and non-makers alike) to vote for the icon they find to be the best interpretation of the prompt by the number it is given.

4a. Important! Icon makers are asked not to vote for their own icons.

4b. At the time of voting, the icons will be anonymous, so that the makers of the various icons will not be revealed until after voting is over.

5. There will be a maximum of three winners, depending on the amount of submitted icons, and they will be given first, second or third place in accordance to the number of votes they have received. There will also be a category called “mod’s pick of the crop” where the mods will pick out an icon they think deserve special attention. If the mods have submitted to the challenge, they will - of course - not pick their own icons.

5a. All winners will receive a banner featuring a copy of their winning icon, along with their LJ name, their ranking and the number of the icon challenge which they’ve won.

5b. Once the winners have been announced, all icon makers are free to repost their icons to relevant communities and journals.
