Unlike Simon, Nia had been getting plenty of rest. Traveling with company had kept her pace leisurely, and she had just as much faith in meeting with Simon as she had before. She wasn't nervous or rushed. Just excited.
Today the excitement was getting the better of her, and she rushed ahead of her companion on the path. Even Togetic stayed behind, flying slowly but surely down the route as Nia went on ahead. She knew Simon well enough to know he was moving faster than her - that he would reach her soon.
He'd managed at least one night of rest, thanks mostly to Kaito sending him back to pick up Fish and his passing out at the Pokemon Center in Cherrygrove the night before.
But as Sandshrew crawled up Simon's arm onto his shoulder, Simon continued forward and caught a glance of extremely cotton-candy-y hair. Which could only mean one thing.
Nia hadn't expected him quite so soon, and was visibly surprised. She paused mid step, despite the fair distance remaining between them. Somehow, she was too startled to be anything but calm.
To make up for her pause as wel as his own, Nia ran towards him, throwing her arms around him as soon as she was close enough. She felt tears welling up in her eyes.
He was almost bowled over by her hug. As it was, Sandshrew lost his perch and was clinging to the back of Simon's jacket. Automatically he wrapped her up in his arms, maybe a little too tight, with somewhat of a shaky laugh.
"Sorry it took me so long." He was never going to let her go. Never, ever again.
She buried her face into his neck and shook her head; He didn't need to apologize. Knowing her tears probably wouldn't help with his guilt, Nia did her best to stop them quickly through determination alone.
She needed to pull back to wipe her eyes, but didn't want to let go.
Nia settled for rubbing her face into his jacket to dry her eyes. She didn't think he would mind. His hand in her hair was soothing, so Nia wondered if it would have the same effect on him. She raised her own hand into his hair.
"I know," She said, a bit muffled by his clothes. "I trust you."
He didn't mind at all--he could never mind. Her hand in his hair made his stomach flip as he tightened his hold even more--making very, very sure not to hurt her.
He laughed again. He couldn't admit he was getting nervous that he'd driven her away, that he'd never see her again. And even remembering the weeks where his dreams were filled with being by her side again brought a redness to his cheeks.
And now that he'd started laughing--not loudly, not strongly, just... somewhere between a sigh and a chuckle--he couldn't seem to stop. He was just so relieved that she was with him again.

Larry, Nia's travel buddy for last week, had hung back with Togetic to watch the reunion. He couldn't help but grin, despite all of the drama that had happened a few days ago and all of the worrying he had been doing. Seeing two friends brought back together...what a sight to behold.
Arms behind his head, he turned to Togetic. "Nothing like a happy ending, huh?" he mused, turning back to the two kids. Maybe things could only get better from here.
Aaaaaand hope you don't my ridic, late tags. (/)_(\)revivifiesNovember 22 2010, 06:13:54 UTC
Nia glanced to Larry over Simon's shoulder, suddenly aware that it was probably rude to ignore him for so long. She pulled back from Simon carefully, though her hands instinctively reached for his. Once their fingers were laced together, she motioned to Larry with one hand, pulling Simon's with it.
"Oh, Simon, I would like for you to meet my escort!"
So long as you guys don't mind mine XDindemnifiesNovember 24 2010, 19:04:18 UTC
Simon's stomach twisted uncomfortable as she let go, but he offered an awkward half-smile to Larry. His legs felt like they might give out simply with relief.
I don't mind at all! 8DitsthebutzNovember 24 2010, 19:22:33 UTC
Larry grinned, waving to the two of them.
"Yo! Simon, huh? Well kid, you've got one heck of a friend there!" he replied, taking a few steps closer to Simon and Nia. And really, he meant that. Nia was peppy and entertaining. They had had a lot of interesting conversations on their trip.
