It's a simple room you started out in. Bed in the back, small desk next to it. There's your pokegear sitting on top with a pokeball, a backpack of supplies at your feet. A note is on your pillow.
A little girl in the Rocket uniform, worried, was wandering around the town, a female Nidoran at her side. She didn't look any older than nine, her hair in pigtails.
If her brother was not here, how could she protect him?
Shirou Machi was wandering around Mahogany Town--wondering what the fuck was going on, why his powers were disabled, where his awesome life-sucking robot could currently be hiding--when he spotted an all too familiar face.
Quite frankly, it seemed like a bad idea to wear the Rocket uniform, with the way people were avoiding him and such. Kida figured that he should have avoided the uniform either way, but the pushy members in the building wouldn't let him leave until he did so.
At his feet, his Mareep baaed. Kida looked around him, arms akimbo as he tried to figure out what to do now. Leave town? Strike it out on his own? And then what?
Out of the corner of his eye he caught the sight of a small girl and turned around. Did such young people really serve the Rockets? The thought made him frown, but he quickly wiped it off as he quickly strode over to her.
"Ah, excuse me~! You look rather lost! Do you need some help~?"
"Your brother?" Kida tilted his head, thinking for a moment. "Well, I'm sure you'll find him around here! It seems like a small town anyway, and he's probably wearing the same uniform as us."
He looked down at the Nidoran and gave it a big grin. His Mareep plopped down on the ground and gave a feeble baa.
"You don't live here either? What a coincidence! Neither do I! Did you wake up in that dark and mysterious building as well?"
Mareep gave Nidoran an apathetic stare as it turned over on its back, little stubby legs peddling in the air.
He was surprised at the girl's next remark. She seemed unusually perceptive for her age, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. (That, or he had underestimated her age. Some girls looked a lot younger than they actually were, though he doubted that this was the case.)
"Maybe things work differently around here. This is Pokemon, after all!"
Kida shook his head. "Sorry. But I'll let you know if I see him, all right? Ah, my name is Kida Masaomi, by the way! Very nice to meet you!"

And he walked over to Kana.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
As though she would possibly know.

Kana stared. If Sensei was here, then, surely everything was alright.
"Where is my Oniichan?"
Reply
"Haven't seen him."

And then she spotted Dung Beetle and Kana and stormed over.
"Alright, you son of a bitch," she said to Dung Beetle, hands on Kana's shoulders. "Is this some kind of joke?"

He's my brother, too, she recalled with a jolt.
And this little girl is my sister. Did Kana know about that?
"We'll find him, okay? We just have to look around."

"Yes sir... I am looking for my brother. He looks like me, but he is bigger and wears glasses."
Nidoran, at her side, tilted her head.
"...I don't live here," Kana added. Because, this obviously was not her home. (Then what was she doing here?)

Kana, stunned, began to nod.
"Yes! I did! ...Um, the letter said we have to work for Giovanni, but I think that's against the Labour Standards Law..."
Why a nine-year-old was fretting over labour laws was just...
"Oh... You didn't see him, then?"

"Poke...mon?" Kana took a moment to sound the word out. She had never heard of such a thing.
"O-Oh." She flushed and sank into a bow. "Hello, sir... I'm Ushiro Kana. It is nice to meet you too."
