Just three more matches to go until Xanxus could win the grand prize. Or prizes, rather. He was on a roll so far, and after getting this far there was no way he was going to lose. Xanxus waited impatiently for his opponent to step onto the battlefield.
So far, so good. Just a couple more and he could go all the way here. As he steps out on to the field, Mac is excited to see just how his next opponent operates. If anything, this whole tournament was a good experience. After all, there's nothing like a good fight.
Ed managed to find time to stretch in the locker room before the fight. He was ready to go, staff in hand. The weather was still crap for people with automail, but he'd live.
Ed massaged his shoulder a bit before taking up his stance. He grinned. By now, he was feeling pretty cocky, not that he had ever actually expected himself to lose. "Ready!"
Ed rushed towards Athrun, swooping the staff low to knock out his opponent's feet from under him.
Athrun saw the staff coming. So, he leaped into the air to avoid it. He came down on his hands, then launched himself back into the air, this time feet-first at Ed.
Athrun threw his hands back to block the staff. He tried to grab it, but missed, but it was enough to avoid getting hit. He landed on his feet in a crouching position, and waited for Ed to make the next move.
Ed took this opportunity to swing the staff down from above, but at an angle to make it a bit harder for Athrun to dodge. After the swing, should it miss and hit the ground, Ed would use it to launch himself forward and hopefully land a kick.
Athrun's kick was successful in knocking the staff away and in so doing also knocked Ed down to the ground. While he wasn't able to kick as he wanted, he was still able to tuck himself up and roll on the ground to recover. The staff on the other hand was knocked away, where it clattered on the ground. Ed left it there, and rushed in to close the space between himself and Athrun to send a punch aimed at his opponent's solar plexus.
The movement was all but second nature to Athrun. He rotated to the side, using the ball of his foot as a pivot, then locked Ed's upper arm with one arm and grabbed his wrist with his other hand. He then rotated it back so that he'd have his arm behind his back.
However, this was Athrun's first time pulling this maneuver with an automail arm, so the lock wasn't as tight as it would normally be.
Ed pivoted himself to free himself from the lock and yanked his arm to get it out of his opponent's grip. As he did so, he swung his left leg over and aimed high to aim for Athrun's head.
The kick was thrown too high to catch, so Athrun raised his right forearm to block it.
Only to feel some nasty pain when the prosthetic hit. He let out an instinctive cry of pain.
But he didn't grab the arm or drop his guard. No, he'd taken some injuries in fights before and kept fighting. He was determined to make this one of those times. He dropped to the floor of the ring again, favoring his left arm, and threw a sweep to knock Ed off-balance while he was retracting his left leg.
