Summary: Guess what day it is? It's Yosuke Hanamura's birthday and on the 23rd, it's Merlin's birthday! Also, just a few weeks ago, it's been Rise's birthday, but couldn't be properly celebrated

[Anyone curious enough to go looking for Merlin will find him sprawled on his bed in the Centre, holding up a small, metal Dragonair figurine to the light. His fingertips trace over the tiny details in the model. If he closes his eyes and ignores the feeling of metal where wood should be, he can pretend for a moment he's holding another, more familiar dragon figurine.]

Draca, [He whispers, imagining the figurine coming to life, though he knows it won't. Not in Johto.]

[ Alright, Souji might have been in the kitchen most of the time to prepare snacks, but he hasn't seen Merlin at all. Therefore, either he's out, upstairs, or likes playing hide-and-seek somewhere, but Souji will rather take his chances by checking Merlin's bedroom first. ]

[ He climbs the stairs, wiping his washed hands on his apron and makes his way to the right bedroom. Instead of trying the doorknob or entering, he knocks on the door twice. ]

Merlin?

[Startled, Merlin quickly shoves the figurine under his pillow before sitting up. He doesn't notice his abrupt movements making the figurine slip out.]

I'm in here. [He runs his hand through his hair, letting his feet drop back onto the floor when he recognises Souji's voice through the door.]

[ At this, Souji opens the door just a bit. He doesn't step inside though, waiting for Merlin's permission to do so. ]

Feeling alright?

SOUJI, SO POLITE

Yeah. [He glances down at his hands for a moments, then pastes a smile on his face.] Why wouldn't I be?

[When he notices Souji hesitating, Merlin makes a small gesture.] You can come in, you know.

HE'S NOT LIKE YOSUKE, BRO.

[ Thus, he enters the room and closes the door behind him. ]

Well, we're waiting for you downstairs. This party's for you too.

SO I CAN SEE

Right. [He glances the the clock sheepishly.] I didn't realise it had gotten so late early.

oh, yosuke... someone teach him some manners

[ A nod and hm? Taking notice of that fallen dragon figurine, so he walks over to it and picks it up. He glances over it for a second before holding it out to Merlin. ]

This yours? [ Since it's not uncommon for Pokemon to suddenly bring home random things they find on the streets, or at least Souji's Pokemon. ]

Go, Souji. Teach him *manners*

[To his credit, his hands only shake a little when he takes the figurine back. He cups it in his hands, glancing away.]

Yeah, it's mine. One of the shops in the city sells little trinkets like this.

[ Souji takes notice of that shaking; a leader always has to make sure to have a keen eye of everything, but he doesn't bring it up. So, he drops his hand to his side once Merlin takes the figurine back. ]

[He hesitates for a second.] I had something like this back home. Not a Dratini, obviously. Just...a dragon.

[ Oh, Merlin doesn't seem like he wants to talk about it. Souji... probably shouldn't dig into this further if he doesn't want to continue. ]

[ Well, this is a perfect chance to hand over the gift. So, he reaches into the front pocket of his apron and pulls out a small box wrapped in blue paper along with an envelope. ] Happy early Birthday, Merlin. [ He says with a small smile. ]

[ In the box should be a ring, in which there's a ring with Dragonairs engraved upon it. For the envelope, there's a generic looking card but inside is a pretty long message on how he appreciates all of Merlin's help, how he's his friend, and wishing a great birthday. There's also a little keychain in there in the shape of a Lucario, just to put your room and centre key. ]

SHANKS THEM SO HAR--wait...

[The box makes Merlin quirk his brow at Souji, but he takes it and starts tugging the paper off with a grin.] Thanks. You didn't have to get me anything, you know?

[He stops as he finally gets the box open, staring openly at the ring and its engravings.] Souji--you. [Another stutter escapes him before he traces the Dragonair shapes with one finger.]

Dragonairs? [He looks over at his friend, still wide-eyed.] Why Dragonairs?

SHANK ALL OF THEM. NO MERCY

I remember you've had one before, and according to the Pokedex, they can give off gentle auras.
