POKEMON CENTER

[tiercelet]

[After having his pokemon free to run around in Souji's breeding centre for so long, it feels odd having to leave some of them in storage. Stopping to speak with the Nurse about his current team's health, Merlin then sits in one of the chairs nearby, letting his eyes close.]

Ecruteak Gym next... [He says quietly to himself, brushing his hair away from his face. He inwardly reviews what he knows the Ghost type pokemon, wondering which pokemon he should take with him.]

[Chie doesn't take long to approach the young man, looking thoughtful. Bruce is standing behind her, and she has a few Pokéballs in her hands. Not enough for a full team of six, though.]

So you're gonna challenge the gym too, Merlin?

[tiercelet]

[Chie's voice draws his attention back to the present, and he opens his eyes as he smiles at her.]

Yeah. I meant to collect the badges a while back. [He pats the seat beside him in invitation.] Got a bit sidetracked when I began helping Souji at the Centre.

[Chie takes the invitation with a small smile, sitting down right next to him.]

Heh, I bet. Must be a lot of work keeping that place going. You have any of the other badges yet?

[He relaxes against the back of the chair, tilting his head. Of their rescue group, Chie's probably the member Merlin has spoken to the least--with this break in their traveling pace, Merlin hopes to remedy that.]

Just the Violet and Goldenrod ones. How about you, Chie?

[Chie is thinking much the same thing. Merlin seems to know all the Investigation Team except her, and any friend of her comrades is a friend of hers, as far as she's concerned! So she's looking forward to getting to know him as well.]

Oh, same here! I never did get down to Azalea, 'cause Souji-kun and everybody came through Violet and picked me up.

[tiercelet]

Neither did I. [He laughs.] Guess everyone's been using the shortcut to get to Goldenrod--nearly everyone, at least. Maybe...[He pauses] Maybe after all this, I'll head down to Azalea and get that badge.

Yeah, I should do that too. Maybe we could go together? We can cheer each other on or something!

[tiercelet]

[The split-second hesitation is mainly due to the thought "but Arthur and I were supposed to do that together" crossing his mind. He brushes it away and smiles at Chie.]

You know what? That would be great, Chie. It'd get lonely traveling on your own, you know?

Yeah, even if we ride, it'll still take a while to get there. It's a deal, then! Once Souji-kun's back and everything's settled down a little.

[tiercelet]

Yeah. [Then, he coughs, looking sheepish.] We should...probably finish fixing the Centre before that. Some parts of the roof still needing fixing when we left Goldenrod.

[Wince.] I almost forgot. Those Gyaradoses really did a number on the place, didn't they?

Sure did... [He trails off with a frown.] It was really odd, you know. They wouldn't listen to anyone or stay in their pokeballs until Souji and I weakened them a bit.

Yeah, sounds like that was happening a lot. I'm glad Goldie was in the PC. I'd have hated for her to have to go through that too. [Plus, y'know, the extra damage from three Gyaradoses instead of two.]
