Unlike Crow, Kaito thought ice cream was a fabulous idea. It was something he and Aoko used to do all the time at home when one or both of them were feeling down, so at this point it had become a comfort food of sorts. After the roughness of the past few weeks... well. Kaito couldn't deny that both he and Crow needed it.

Besides, one never needed an excuse to spend time with good friends!

Despite how down he was still feeling about everything that had happened, Kaito was doing a good job of now showing it. Perhaps it was the warm weather, or the prospect of satisfying his sweet tooth, but as he and Crow stood in line at the cafe he balanced playfully on the balls of his feet, hands stuffed into the pockets of his shorts.

"You ask for a sample first," he pointed out, "Or try to guess the flaors based on color. That's one's probably..." A beat as he tried to think of an appropriate flavor for 'Flaming Rapidash,' "Sour strawberry and vanilla."

ICE CREAM IS TOTALLY MANLY darkenedgales May 16 2011, 21:25:46 UTC
Now that he looked around the cafe filled with happy buzz and smiling people, he realized it might not be such a bad idea after all. There was no point in staying in his room and brooding for eternity, as none of his friends -- those who left and those still in Johto alike -- would approve of that. With all the stuff that had happened not so long ago, neither he or Kaito would probably feel really good anytime soon, but at least at that point Crow wasn't gonna smack his friend for as much as attempting to act normally. And being pretty good at it, as always.

"Maybe so!" The duelist shrugged with a smile on his face. It was rather obvious he was becoming more and more convinced this could be an enjoyable afternoon with every minute. "As long as it ain't melon or tea, I can have anything." He wasn't a particularly picky eater, much less a specialist, and with good company, anything tasted great anyway.

Kaito tilted his head and peered at the vat of 'Flaming Rapidash' ice cream. "I doubt it's tea..." he said with a thoughtful hum, "Though you might get unlucky with melon. 'M pretty sure red is a valid color for that flavor."

The pair of teenage girls in front of them in line finally finished their sale and slipped to the side giggling, clearing the cashier for them to make their order.

"Wonder which one of these flavors is chocolate," Kaito mused out loud as he stepped forward, "The whole 'name everything after Pokemon' thing gets kind of old for a while."

"We won't know until we try!" Crow announced with a grin, followed by Torchic chirping enthusiastically, eager to try as many flavors as possible. When it came to sweets, Ghibli was even less of a picky eater than his trainer.

"As for chocolate, my vote would go to..." he looked around, his eyebrow rising as he noticed one that would fit that. "'Icy Piloswine'?" He shook his head with resignation. Whoever had come up with those names must have had an odd definition of 'creativity'. Speaking of which...

"But it ain't that surprising, y'know. I mean, back home it's similar. We've got things like Blue-Eyes Mountain or Red Demon's Noodles..." Neither of which brought back any good memories.

"We don't name things after animals back where I come from," Kaito retorted with a quirked eyebrow, "And if we do, it's usually a themed restaurant or something--" He was interrupted by the cashier clearing her throat and giving both boys a smile that said 'I'd rather not stand here all day while you two chat like a pair of teenagers."

"Two scoops of... what's it called, Icy Pilowsine?"

"Piloswine," Crow corrected with a smile, "And animals sure aren't a big thing like Pokemon here or Duel Monsters back in my world..." He trailed off until he noticed the cashier's glare that reminded him they hadn't come there to talk. Well, not only that.

"Er, I'll have one scoop of Flaming Rapidash, one of Icy Piloswine and-- oi, aren't you getting carried away?" Crow asked, eyeing the Pokemon in his arms that insisted on getting some more flavors by pointing at them with his beak. Ghibli looked up at him with tears with his eyes, leaving him no choice. "Fine, be that way," the duelist continued with a sigh, "--and one of Swinging Bellsprout."

Having paid for the purchase, Crow stepped away from the queue and gave his companion a genuinely curious look. "So, why ice cream, anyway?"

Kaito had already stepped away and was digging into his own ice cream as Crow placed his order, free hand stuffed in his pocket.

"Why not?" he asked with a shrug once his friend was done, and he made his way toward a table at the edge of the cafe, "It's summer, so it's the perfect season for ice cream."

"You've got a point there!" Crow admitted with a laugh, sitting down at the table. "Summer, huh..." he continued slowly, "Now that you mention it, it's almost been a year since I got here."

Almost a year since he'd gotten his first Pokemon, met Kay, Johan and everyone... A year since their 'great adventure' began. He smiled at the thought. It sure had been an eventful year for everyone in Johto.

"Time really flies here, doesn't it?"

Kaito paused as he flopped into his seat, silently eating his own ice cream as he leaned forward and rested his chin in his free hand. "Almost been a year for me, too," he commented with a lopsided grin, "And you're right, it kinda feels like it as just yesterday..."

And so long ago he had hoped his stay in Johto would have been blissfully short.
