The Palace of the Keys RPG

I'm starting to think this RPG is cursed. It was started on proboards, which states flat out that it is supposed to be a PG-13 board, and the rpg is full of adult content. But it was started by a 16/17 year old who was a full time high school student. So free was good.

She goes to college and life occurs. Which is a good thing for her, probably a bad thing for the board, but moving on. I take over since I was about the only mod left. Move it to its own domain. Can't move the old posts because the database doesn't belong to me. So me and several of the members move an assload of posts from the old board. STILL don't have them all, but we go on with life.

I know nothing about PHPNuke and the securities get old. Hackers break the captia and now the board, which has become mostly defunct anyway because life occurs to me too, is filled with spam.

So I finally snag my IT guy by the short hairs by crying in the middle of the night to my fiance when I find the spam and can't stop it. He does some magic. I change some settings. No more spam. I set about removing all the spam. Which I succeeded in removing the last piece Monday night.

There are 5 1/2 pages of mostly legit logins. Monday night I had 23 pages of logins. 25 names to a page. I deleted three pages in an ENTIRE evening. Close the board for maintenance hoping I won't get any more spammers making accounts. 14 new logins made yesterday. I decide I'm just going to have to update the software and then delete the logins.

I mentioned not knowing anything about PHPNuke, right?

I get stopped first thing by it telling me that PHPNuke, which has been an open source code since its inception, is not longer FREE. >.> So I go to PHPBB thinking this will upgrade the bulletin board part and leave Nuke alone. They say I have to check each directory for the hack files. Cause I know what the hack files are gonna look like... right?

Call IT guy in hopes he'll be able to tell me what I'm looking for. I'm not actually looking for lots of help, he's been fairly useless for several years. (Girlfriends that really aren't worth the skin their in and stuff like that)

He goes to look, decides the best method is to move the old site to a new directory and install just PhpBB all by itself without Nuke. So he does. Walks through all of it. Gets it all set up, a new theme and everything. (since the old theme was a NUKE theme *sighs*) And then can't export the data from the old board to the new board because.... (makes you hold your breath for the answer) the new board has so many bells and whistles that the old database is no longer compatable. It's too old and simple. How's that catch ya?

IT guy is going to look into moving the post data by not moving the old database in whole, but just descriptors and post data. He doesn't use MySQL that much so he's hoping he can find a way with a little looking.

The other options are 1. Move ALL that data some 10,000+ posts by hand AGAIN. *starts crying*
2. Use the old board as an archive and simply link to it. >.>

Obviously number 2 is the option I'm gonna use if he can't find a way to move the data. I just don't have it in me to move all those posts again.

Lets not mention the fact I only have like five players now. And am down to being the only mod again. I obviously love the rpg, cause otherwise I'd have shot myself by now.
