Power steering rack on it's way out, leaking fluid pretty badly.

And here I thought VWs were supposed to be pretty durable little cars... it's like they don't break often (for me anyway, compared to my past 2 cars), but when they do... BLAMMO! you're fucked!

Well, I can't blame VW on this one. The power steering rack was actually replaced back in April 2007 due to a car accident, the one I got was a reman one. Boo! For reman German car parts!

My buddy eric thinks it was 12month/12k miles. So likely not, though I'm certainly going to call the shop...unless I fucked myself by putting stop leak into it...ah nuts.
