here's parts of the press release:
"Discovered in a trunk in 2000 and published in 2003 as the collection 'Mr. Paradise', these four plays have never been produced in NY. (Five others from this collection were produced at MTC two seasons ago.) Tennessee Williams called these plays his firecrackers on a rope.
When Thirteenth Street Repertory produced his play 'Outcry', Tennessee Williams sat on the stage steps of this small theatre and declared that the future of the American theater lay in the small theaters of Off Off Bway.
In the present climate of so many small theaters in Manhattan shutting their doors, The Thirteenth Street Theater is engaged in a struggle for its very survival against real estate developers and is very grateful for having been given the opportunity to present these powerful short plays as part of its benefit efforts towards the Legal Fund to save the theatre.
Director Stephan Morrow has assembled a powerful cast of actors that have volunteered in this effort because they believed so strongly in the mission to save the Thirteenth Street Theater. He worked with Arthur Miller's blessing for three years trying to get Mr. Miller's play "Incident at Vichy" to Broadway during which he presented staged readings of the play with casts that included F. Murray Abraham, Richard Dreyfuss, Leo Burmeister, Austin Pendleton, David Margulies and Peter Weller among others.
Edith O'Hara (producer) founded the Thirteenth Street Repertory in 1972. TSRC provides a place for actors, directors, playwrights, and technicians to develop their craft in a caring, nurturing, professional environment. Anywhere between 5-7 shows run weekly, including childrens shows on the weekend. TSRC is also home to the longest running play in NYC, LINE, by Israel Horovitz, now in it's 32nd year at our theatre. Among those given a helping hand at the beginning of their careers: Bette Midler, Barry Manilow, and Chazz Palmenteri.
