MACDONALD, Kathleen, 89, Halifax

"Say not she is no more, but that she was..."

so after all of that we lost the battle against the souless patriarch of my family...so the names of the grandchildren weren't mentioned after all :(

I dedicated my performance last night to grandma and I'm including the obit here anyway so I can hopefully find closure.

...

Passed away peacefully, on March 11, 2008 at Arborstone Extended Care, Halifax.

She was a daughter of the late Kate and William Payne, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Born in England, Kay immigrated to Canada with her family at 6 months of age and grew up a proud westerner in Saskatoon, before moving to Vancouver to enter training at the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as an RN with the Class of 1943. Later she served as an Army Nurse posted in Dundern, Sask., before meeting her future husband Mac in Vancouver, where they married in September of 1944. Kay and Mac moved to Nova Scotia after the end of Second World War, where they raised their family. After her family was grown she volunteered for many years with the Brunswick-Cornwallis Preschool in Halifax.

A natural teacher, Kay had a love of learning which she instilled in all her children and grandchildren, teaching them art, piano and a love of music and poetry. She delighted
in gardening, nature and birds.

Kay was predeceased by her husband Hubert (Mac) MacDonald, sister, Sadie Murdoch. She is survived by sons, John (Bonnie), Calgary, Alberta; Bruce (Cheryl), Tantallon; Keith (Patrice), Mahone Bay; daughters, Sheila Kristiansen, Williamswood; Moira (James Conway), Lower Sackville; 9 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation has taken place. No visitation at Kay’s request. A celebration of Kay’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22, from 2-4pm at 7142 Spruce Street, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay's memory to Bryony House or to a charity of your choice.
