HISTORY: The daughter of Uzumi Nara Athha, a fairly well-known ex-politician. The Athha family have had a presence in New Sanctum politics since the dome was first founded, and even in the Old World, they were an influential lot. While not involved in politics any more, Uzumi was once the representative of the inner-city district where he now resides, and is still widely respected. He is frequently very vocally critical of the government's more militant policies, which has led to rumour that he is sympathetic to, even supporting, the Tatakai.
That said, Uzumi is not actually Cagalli's birth father. Cagalli's birth parents were the Hibiki family; her father, Ulen Hibiki, was a government scientist. Ulen was obsessed with a genetic engineering project, and upon learning that his wife was pregnant, became enamoured with the idea of his own child being the first superhuman being. His wife, Via, was not as enthusiastic. When it became clear that she was pregnant with twins, Ulen coerced her into giving up one of the children to be genetically altered, and raising the other naturally. Cagalli was born naturally; her brother Kira was removed from the womb early and genetically altered. Soon after her birth, Cagalli was privately adopted to Uzumi Nara Athha, Via's brother-in-law. Uzumi's wife was heavily pregnant with a child, and Cagalli was to be passed off as that child's twin. However, in an unfortunate twist of fate, Uzumi's wife passed away during childbirth, mother and child both dying. Reluctantly, Uzumi went along with the lie, protecting Via's secret and keeping the truth even from Cagalli.
Despite the chaos with which she came into the world, Cagalli's upbringing was relatively normal. She was raised for the most part by a caretaker, Mana, as her father was often away or simply distracted by business. Perhaps because of her brash and rebellious nature, Cagalli had difficulty making any close friendships during school. As she grew older, she became more and more dissatisfied with the current state of the city; while she is in basic agreement with her father's views, she believes a more radical approach is necessary, although she is beginning to understand the realities of the political world.
PERSONALITY: Brash and reckless, but her heart is in the right place. Cagalli is a fiery, emotional girl who wears her heart on her sleeve; if she has a problem with you, she won't hold back in telling you of it. She's proud and hot-tempered, even arrogant at her worst, but at her best, she's a passionate and deeply loyal young woman dedicated to the ideals of peace. She can be naive and blindly optimistic, not always realising when the odds are stacked up against her hopelessly, although experience has taught her to look before she leaps. (Well, sometimes.) Despite her naiveté due to her sheltered upbringing, Cagalli doesn't shy away from battle. Even though she strives for peace, she'll take up arms to protect the people and ideals that are important to her.
Although she can be violent when angry or upset, Cagalli is truly loyal to her friends, even if she sometimes has trouble relating to them. She's mature for her age, even if that maturity is occasionally eclipsed by her explosive temper, and when she's focused on a goal, she's single-minded in her determination to achieve it. She's also a complete tomboy, and, much to her chagrin, she is often mistaken for a boy. Despite her flaws, Cagalli is nevertheless a kind and understanding person, always acting on what she feels is right, even at the risk of her own life. More than anything, Cagalli despises those who would hurt or kill other people without any remorse.
POWERS/ABILITIES/COMBAT SKILLS: Cagalli has the ability to enter a state of heightened awareness, which gives her a faster reaction time and enhanced information processing abilities. The ability cannot be triggered voluntarily, and is only triggered when in a critical situation wherein either Cagalli or someone important to her is in mortal danger, and only then when she is completely resolved in her actions. Essentially, SEED mode is born out of desperation and resolve, and the effect is temporary. (The ability is called SEED mode in canon, and is theorised to be a next step in human evolution. Of course, I assume the theory of SEED wouldn't exist in New Sanctum. XD;; I'm probably never going to actually use it, but still. Here's an even more confusing explanation. 8D) Cagalli can also use standard handguns, and has fairly good aim with them. She's talented with technology and is able to pick up various weaponry types fairly easily.
EXTRA: Cagalli's birthday is May the 18th. She's 164cm tall and weighs 52kg. Her blood type is A, and her favourite food is kebabs. She carries with her a red amulet that's a protective charm of the goddess Haumea. Cagalli attended school up until she was sixteen, when she was taken out of the system and instead home-tutored.
