EDGEWATER - An Edgewater man turned himself in to authorities Monday night after he told police he cut a woman's throat in his parents' Lake Avenue home.
Russell Bradshaw
Edgewater Police Sgt. Dave Archieri said Russell Bradshaw came to the police station at about 9:42 p.m.
"He called dispatch and told them, 'I think I killed someone'," the sergeant said.
Officer Kevin Curran was at the West Park Avenue station when the call went out and walked outside to meet with Bradshaw, 20.
"I asked him what was going on," Curran said. "He said, 'I think I killed someone" When I asked him how he did that, he said, 'I cut her throat"
The officer said Bradshaw was very calm and matter of fact during his confession.
Bradshaw, who had bloodstains on his right thigh and left calf, then told Curran where officers could find the body and the knife.
Bradshaw gave police a key to the house at 914 Lake Avenue and consented to a search.
Once inside, officers found the dead body of Lisa Memro, 21, no address available, in one of the bedrooms of the single-story structure.
"Her throat had been cut from ear to ear," Archieri said.
He said investigators believe the crime occurred in a bathroom. Memro apparently bled to death in a bathtub before being moved to the bedroom.
Officers secured the house and got a search warrant before continuing their investigation, police said.
During interviews, Archieri said Bradshaw told investigators he and Memro were high school friends.
Archieri said Bradshaw apparently met the woman sometime Monday and she drove to the house, which Bradshaw shares with his parents, who are out of state, the sergeant said.
Archieri said Bradshaw told investigators he did not know why he killed the woman.
Bradshaw has been charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators with the State Attorney's Office homicide task force are assisting in the investigation, Archieri said.
