Right, I
did say I'd tell you about the Mystery Flute girl. She's from mysterious Toronto Island, where all the rich hippies live. We're going to be playing a show together on Wednesday, but I haven't met her yet. She's played with people like the Constantines, Great Lake Swimmers, and Yo La Tengo, so she is sure to be good. She also has the distinct advantage of having a zed in her name, just like me. eliZabeth and roZalind at Zekes? It is meant to be.
To be honest, I'm a little stressed out about this show. Since Rozalind is from out of town, I feel more pressure to draw a crowd. Zeke has a rule that if the audience consists of less than 10 people, he'll cancel the show. I'm pretty sure I can get more than 10 people out, and I understand why the rule exists, but it's still one more thing to worry about.
Then there's my ever-present keyboard problem. I love my keyboard, but she weighs 80 pounds. This makes it rather difficult to carry her on the metro. I certainly can't do it alone. I usually end up taking a cab, which can cost up to $30 each way for somewhere on the Plateau. I'm looking into getting a keyboard without speakers, which would be a fair bit lighter, and I even have a potential source for a used one, but I would need to sell this one before I could afford another.
Well, glad I got that out of my system. All that being said, it should be a good show. The space is cozy and intimate, and it has WiFi. I already have
two offers of liveblogging of the event! This will probably be my last show for a little while, since I'm recording in September. So I will stop cluttering your friends pages soon, at least until October ;)
