*holding the door for her* I'm sorry about the mess... I got a little behind on things last month and was finally getting around to straightening up.

*it's... messy, but clearly in the process of being organized. most of the books and papers are at least stacked and there aren't any dishes out anymore*

It's fine. Was there something you needed? You can have a seat on the couch, if you'd like.

*Ms. Seriousface comes back knowing that things are looking okay*

*takes a few steps inside* ...ah... it's about this...

*you know, the letter and banana loaf?*

Oh, good. I dropped it off at the right place. I wasn't quite sure.

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed.

*putting things away; might be trying not to smile*

Then throw away the note. Writing it made me feel better and you'll have to forgive my sense of responsibility. I'm much older than I was then. Looking back on it from this distance... It's almost like I'm apologizing for something a child I was entrusted with did rather than something I did myself. Do you understand? It's an obligation. The bread, however, is a genuine gift.

*chuckles a little as she seems to be holding half of the bread in her hand* I thought we were supposed to share responsibility.

That would make this half yours.

That's not fair; that was a present. But since you brought it over, I'd be willing to eat some with you.

*getting a couple of plates and forks out of a, uh, desk drawer, along with a knife to cut it with*
