RIDGEFIELD -- A New Fairfield woman was charged with operating under the influence Wednesday evening after police allegedly found her and a companion smoking marijuana in a car that had encountered a pool of standing water on George Washington Highway.
Police said the vehicle, operated by Danielle Nichols, 20, of Bantam Road, was parked in the road with its four-way flashers on about 6 p.m., during a heavy rainstorm that made the road impassable.
Upon investigating, police said they discovered Nichols and Joseph Bongiorno, 20, of Middlefield, were getting high.
Both occupants were charged with possession of marijuana. Nichols was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.
