Wikipedia☓ Canon point: Volume 12, the day after Eriol's explanation about the Sakura Cards.
☓ Age: 12 years old
☓ Personality:
Sakura is, in one word, loveable. She’s cheerful, kind, upbeat, and is described to be `cute` by several characters throughout the whole series. She has a tendency to reach out to others and touch them with her innocence and good will, usually without ever meaning to. She can’t stand to see people sad or hurting, and always does her best to get along with the people around her - whether they’re amenable to the idea or not.
Syaoran Li and Yue are good examples of this. Syaoran was once her rival in capturing the Clow Cards, while Yue was her Guardian who was still hung up on his previous master and Sakura’s predecessor Clow Reed. Winning them over was a gradual process, but in the end, Sakura managed to endear herself to them, and they became quite fond and protective of her, always working to support her in magical adventures.
Magical hi-jinks aside, Sakura's mostly your average school girl. She lives with her father Fujitaka and older brother Touya, as her mother Nadeshiko passed away when Sakura was only three years old. Sakura loves her family a lot, though she is not above kicking Touya in the shins or stomping on his feet when he teases her too much or even bossing him around. To her, Fujitaka is the best father ever (and she proudly declares this from time to time), and while she and Touya squabble endlessly, they both care for each other and would do anything to come to the other's aid should they need it.
While she doesn't remember much about her mother, Sakura still professes that she loves her and that she feels like she knows Nadeshiko well because of all the stories Touya and Fujitaka have shared about her. Fujitaka keeps a different picture of Nadeshiko on the dining room table everyday (as Nadeshiko worked as a model as a teenager, they have a lot of pictures of her), and Sakura has taken to `greeting` her mother every morning when she comes down for breakfast.
Her loyalty and love extends to her friends as well, most especially to her best friend Tomoyo and to Kerberos (or `Kero-chan` as she usually calls him), Sakura's other Guardian. Tomoyo and Kero are Sakura's most frequent companions in her quest for the Clow Cards and later in her bid to change the Clow Cards to Sakura Cards under Eriol's influence - Tomoyo tags along recording Sakura's adventures and providing moral support, while Kero advises and helps Sakura as best he can.
While fun-loving and easy-going most of the time, Sakura is the kind of girl who takes her responsibilities seriously, whether it's her shared duties to do chores (such as cooking and cleaning) around the house or her pledge to capture and protect the Cards in order to prevent `a disaster [that would] befall this world`. She also does her best to keep Tomoyo safe while on their adventures, as Tomoyo has no magical powers of her own and is dependent on Sakura for protection.
With such heavy burdens to bear at a young age, it's not surprising that Sakura gets frightened or discouraged from time to time. During these moments, she questions her ability to cope with the situation, sometimes crying out of fear or stress, though this never lasts long. There are times when she needs someone to nudge her along and reassure her that `everything will be all right`, but she's also shown to pick herself up on her own, more determined than ever to stop whatever threat there is and protect everyone.
However, despite all of Sakura's good qualities, she's far from perfect - she's got her own quirks and faults just like everyone else.
She's got a certain impulsive streak that manifests sometimes, one that prompts her to run headlong into what could be dangerous, such as chasing after Clow Reed's presence without waiting for her friends or stubbornly going out to solve a magical situation plaguing the town while sick with fever. To be fair though, this sort of recklessness is usually prompted by her loved ones being in what she perceives as some kind of danger. To that point, she worries about others a lot, but dislikes it (or at least gets flustered ) when people worry about her.
And while Sakura has grown a considerable amount, both emotionally and mentally, from when she first discovered and released the Clow Cards into the world, she's still quite naive and gullible and almost optimistic to a fault. This isn't necessarily a bad thing - these qualities have to do with why people love her so much in the first place, after all - but there is still much for her to learn. Someday, she will realize that for all your stubbornness and determination, the world won't always work the way you want it to, that things don't always turn out all right in the end. She will also have to learn how to keep her head up and to keep moving forward regardless.
But then again, this is Sakura we're talking about. Regardless of all the difficulties she may face in the future, she will, without a doubt, continue to learn and grow stronger and do her level best to make sure that everything will be all right for the sake of the people she cares for the most.
☓ Abilities:
⌈ physical abilities ⌋
Sakura knows how to rollerblade (handy for escaping from creepy-crawlies... or maybe chasing them down, depending on the situation), and can do basic gymnastics which she learned as part of the cheerleading club at her school. She can also run quite fast for her age and stature - she's shown to win the 100m race during her school's athletic meet, and two boys comment on her speed, claiming that `no one else could have won`. She is also said to be able to swim well.
⌈ magical abilities ⌋
When it comes to magic, besides being able to use
her Sakura Cards and their many abilities, Sakura can also sense magic and the presence of spirits. While she can't see ghosts like her brother, she can tell when they're around.
As her magic grows stronger, her sensing abilities have also improved. It's gotten to the point where she can sense when other people are around (like when she feels `Clow's` magic around) or locate a person by following their presence (such as when she was searching for her brother when a Card was after him), and even identify the person's power if it's someone she's familiar with.
She also has the power to see the future. Thus far, she's been shown to see the future through prophetic dreams, reading fortunes using her Clow/Sakura Cards and in a moon reflecting pond at a shrine.
⌈ domestic skills ⌋
Since she takes her turn with the household chores, she's pretty good at cooking and cleaning (though nowhere near as good as her dad!). She knows how to sew as well, but she's not very good at it. Decent enough to help patch up clothes, at least.
☓ Weaknesses:
⌈ magic ⌋
As varied and powerful as Sakura's Cards are, Sakura still needs to unseal her staff first in order to actually be able to call on the Cards' powers. She is neither experienced enough (or perhaps, powerful enough) to use the Cards without the medium provided by her Staff.
There's also the fact that Sakura is reliant on her Cards to perform feats of magic (aside from seeing the future and sensing presences that is). Her lack of experience and knowledge regarding sorcery puts her at a disadvantage sometimes, but time and tutelage would help rectify this.
On that note, Sakura is shown to grow steadily in power as time goes on. In the second half of the series, however, when she begins to transform the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards, we see that she's still quite weak regardless of this - changing the Cards can leave her drained and in bed for the rest of the day, and her magic isn't enough to sustain Yue's existence. As with the above though, time helps with this, and her magic grows to the point where she can change and use a number of Cards one after another and still remain standing.
⌈ age & stature ⌋
Let's face it. Sakura's still just a little girl who's got a long way to go before she fully grows up. She's rather short (and sensitive about it), and it wouldn't take much for someone or something bigger than her to just pick her up and carry her off.
⌈ personality ⌋
Her naivete and her caring nature could also be weaknesses if found and exploited by the wrong person. In the series, Syaoran scolds her a few times for not being suspicious of characters like Mizuki and Eriol and for trusting too easily.
Her tendency to care too much could also (and has) manifest itself in her refusing to hurt people, despite it leading to more difficult situations.
Sakura is also really, really gullible. She's the kind of person who'll believe all sorts of tall tales told to her. It's pretty much a running gag in the series as a classmate of hers, Yamazaki, tends to come up with all kinds of fantastic (and frankly downright odd) stories about the origins of things, and Sakura without fail falls for these lies.
⌈ fears ⌋
Sakura is scared of ghosts. Downright terrified of them (and we can blame her brother for that). She can handle most supernatural events thrown her way, but at the slightest hint that ghosts may be involved, she kind of falls apart until someone informs her that it's likely just another magical situation (because she can handle those with no minimal problems) or that someone is in need of her help (which never fails to fire up her determination and distract her from her fear).
☓ Strengths:
⌈ sorcery ⌋
By the end of the series, Sakura is `the most powerful sorcerer in the world`, inheriting the title from Clow Reed after she remakes all of the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards and splits Eriol's magic (at his request) between himself and the other half-reincarnation of Clow, who just happens to be Sakura's father.
Considering that she's only 12 years old when she gains this title and that her powers have been shown to grow considerably throughout the whole series, she'll only become stronger with time and experience.
As mentioned above, she is able to see the future, much like her predecessors Clow Reed and Eriol Hiiragizawa. However, unlike Clow and Eriol, she has the potential to actually control these powers (i.e. she won't see what will happen all the time, only when she invokes them), implying that her control over her abilities will also be greater than theirs.
⌈ mental / emotional ⌋
Sakura isn't intelligent per se, but she's far from stupid - she just happens to think better on her feet, coming up with creative and often surprising solutions to the problems she faces. This comes in very handy when you're faced with magical creations out to get you in the middle of the night.
Sakura is also quite good at endearing herself to other people, charming them with her sweetness and innocence. She's able to worm her way into people's hearts - such as Li Syaoran's, who was once her rival for the Cards (and Yukito's affections) and who later becomes one of her staunchest allies and love interest - and is even able to reconcile her mother's family with her father, who they blamed for the loss of their dear Nadeshiko. And she does this unconsciously, quietly influencing them with her sincerity and good intentions.
Also, for all her gullibility, Sakura can be startlingly perceptive when it comes to the people around her. That is, except when it comes to romance. She's still pretty oblivious to that kind of thing, unless she's given a nudge in the right direction.
⌈ athleticism ⌋
Sakura's quite fit for a girl her age. She's quick on her feet, and has good coordination and balance (unlike her mother, who is said to have been very clumsy when she was alive). It's likely nothing compared to some of the other characters in the game, but this athleticism has helped her more than once in the past.

[the video flickers on to reveal a small girl frowning down at the computer. she doesn't seem to realize the recording has begun, too set on trying to figure the machine out, and she's mumbling to herself]
--- don't see how Eriol-kun could have done this or why, and the Cards won't even work ---
[she looks up, blinks, and realizes that the video has been running for sometime now. she springs back with a startled cry of "Ho~e!", then turns sheepish. she rubs the back of her head for a moment, then bows to the camera, cheeks red]
Um! My name is Sakura Kinomoto! It's very nice to meet you all!
There are... people here, right? I've seen the posts on this network, but I didn't meet anyone on my way up from the beach, so I just wanted to make sure. [that you're not all just ghosts, she doesn't say, though she shivers a little]
Is there really no way to get back to where we were though? I was on my way to school, and my dad and big brother will get worried if I don't get home on time, so...
[she trails off and is quiet for a moment and generally looks discouraged and very young. and then she perks up a little again, remembering the video feed]
That's all I wanted to ask, I guess. Thank you for your time!
☓ Log post sample:
She doesn't even have to think about it. As soon as she's realized the threat to her brother, Sakura sweeps up her deck from the spread she'd used to foretell the future, straps on her rollerblading gear and is out the door.
She's got just one focus, and that's to find Touya and keep him safe. The Cards are her responsibility, after all, and he's her big brother, and she'd never let anything bad happen to him if she could help it.
She's practically flying down the streets when Kero-chan asks anxiously how she knows where the rogue Card is, and she can't explain it very well to him. All she can say is that she can just feel where it is, and so that's where she's heading. She's so focused on reaching her brother as quickly as possible that she barely hears the mumbled comment from Kero about how her magic's grown stronger, and she doesn't acknowledge it at all as soon as she spots her brother's bike parked by a long flight of stairs.
Up the stairs she goes, hardly winded by the climb. She stops once she reaches the landing though, as a brush of --- something --- startles her, and she stares around uneasily. It's a familiar feeling, one she remembers vaguely from her childhood when she would cling to Touya and cry as he told her about the ghosts around them that he could see and she couldn't.
(She'd still known they were really there though and not just tales her brother had come up with to tease her. She had always been able to sense when they were around, just hovering at the edges of her consciousness, and, in some ways, that just scared her more than if she'd had the ability to see them, too.)
Her brother's presence is obscured now, her sense of it dulled. She no longer knows which way to go. It's as if she's surrounded by people, but there's no one there except Kero-chan. Sakura shivers, feeling very small and frightened, as if lost in a crowd.
She hunches her shoulders, tries to shrink in on herself. Her former concentration is gone, and she starts to despair. She can no longer grasp any sign of her brother's presence or that of the Card that's started this mess. She hides her face in her hands, feeling tears start to form at the corners of her eyes. How can she help her brother like this?
She's crouched down on the ground, crying quietly as Kero-chan tries to comfort and encourage her, when Li Syaoran emerges from the foliage. He's cranky and snappish and squabbles briefly with Kero-chan, but stops short when he notices her tears, concerned and worried.
Hope flares up again in her chest at the sight of him with his
rashinban, and she's seized with a sudden burst of inspiration.
"You use that thing to find Clow Cards, right?" she asks Li desperately. "Please, help me find my brother!"
He doesn't quite say yes, but neither does he say no, and then they're off again, running through the woods. Syaoran and Kero snipe at each other along the way, but Sakura wastes no time when they reach the cliff Touya's fallen from. She unseals her Staff and calls on the power of the Fly Card, all without breaking her stride, so that they can descend safely.
She catches sight of her brother's form slumped against the base of the cliff, bruised and unconscious, and she feels so angry that she feels quite unlike herself for a moment as she stares at the figure beside him who's caused this. She knows right away that this is the one behind all the mischief that her friends thought she'd caused around town, but that's just an afterthought in the face of her brother's injuries.
Neither Windy nor Watery work in binding this new Card, and she's surprised that this Card just stands there quietly as she attempts to seal it. In the end, it's only with help from Kero-chan and her earlier reading, and a hint the Card itself that she manages to figure things out.
When it's all over, she hugs her brother close as she remembers the Mirror Card's apology for hurting her brother, feeling relief and guilt crash down on her - it's because of her that her brother was targeted in the first place, after all. It's only then that she can start to relax and feel like everything really will be all right in her world once again.
