Choose your own adventure-for Real!

I said something about making my own adventures at work and a co-worker snapped "What the hell is that? How can you even do that in a town where you live all your life?"  She just sounded really put out that I would imply that there was fun to be had around town.

I just looked at her and said, "Well here's what I do," and outlined my process.

So, for anyone else out there who might be wondering, here's how to make yourself some adventure without having to spend a ton of money, or going too far out of your way, really.  When I want to grab some dinner or make myself some food, I just go to a grocery store that I don't usually frequent and wander around just to see what they have.  I make it a special point to go down aisles I don't usually frequent, too.  I never know what I'm going to find and it's always fun to try new food.  The worst that can happen is that you aren't going to like it..

If you feel the need for a little more spice in your life, pick an area of town that you don't normally go to (within reasonable parameters, of course-as in, if there's a really bad part of town people avoid, then you'd probably be wise to stay well clear of that area), park your car and take a little hike around the place. Shop a little. See what that area has to offer.  If nothing else, you get a little excercise.  Take the time to look at posters and fliers and bulletin boards in the area-you may find some new events that you would like to try.

Sure, it takes a little effort, but even just a little bit of effort can yield great stories and even better ideas for later.  Don't let your geography hold you back.

After the explaination, the woman blinked at me a couple of times and said, "I'd never really thought of that."

I just smiled and told her that she was welcome.

work, fun, food, trying new things
