Disconnected
“You wanted to see that movie, right?” he asks.
“Movie? What movie?”
He gives me a funny look and I sigh as I realize, once again, that we’re having two entirely different conversations. I thought we were discussing possibly going out for dinner and whether or not we were going to get Italian food. Now, all of the sudden, we might be going to see a movie.
“Okay. I’m sorry. I missed the conversation leap, which movie are you talking about?”
“You know, that new one with Russell Crowe. You like Russell Crowe, right?”
“Yes. I like Russell Crowe. It’s like a thriller thing isn’t it?”
“I think it’s more a political thing. I don’t know. Maybe there are some car chases and stuff,” he adds.
“Are you just hungry for theater popcorn again?”
“Yeah. Maybe I have ulterior motives.”
“So what about that new animated thing? We can go see that later, still have our Italian food, miss all the rug rats and have popcorn for dessert. What do you think of that?”
“Oo. We have a plan. So, dressed and then food?”
“Yeah, okay,” I tell him, the satisfaction of reconnecting the conversation making me feel a little bit smug.
