Yesterday, I ended up watching the cartoon "Barnyard" on cable. I hadn't ever seen it and it was definitely better than Springer, which was pretty much the only other option that I hadn't seen (and I really didn't feel like putting in another movie). I was very surprised because I kept thinking that one of the cows sounded an awful lot like Sam Elliot. As it turned out, it was because said cow was voiced by Sam Elliot.
There are some actors whose voices just really do it for me. They've all got voices that I could just listen to all day long. Sam Elliot ranks right up there as one of them. I also love Michael Wincott's voice. One of the only things that really makes me grumpy about my computer is Vista can't be customized worth a crap, which really ticks me off, because I had some wonderful icons from several of my favorite cartoonists to use for things like my recycle bin-(burping fish from Sherman's Lagoon), but, most wonderful of all were my SOUND EFFECTS. I had multiple sound clips from Michael Wincott adorning my computer, and when the old computer shut down, it did the whole Alan Rickman speech from "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" about the spoon. Yeah, you know the one. I know you know what I'm talking about. Vista? Vista has diddly crap of NOTHING to add ANY kind of personality to your computer. I really, really hate that aspect of it. (There aren't even any freakin' THEMES for gods' sake. The hell, man? Whyfor must you take away the joy of the PERSONAL computer?)
Anyway, back to a happier subject. Voices that I like. Specifically, Actors' voices that I like. Yeah, Alan Rickman's voice is definitely on the list. There's just something about the way he can go from drippingly condescending to honeyed pleading with just a slight change of inflection. Jack Davenport's voice is also very nice. It's not just the British accent going on there, though, he's just got a very distinctive tone and meter to the way that he talks. Jensen Ackles' voice can get so nice and gravelly. Jared Padalecki's is just deep. Jeffrey Dean Morgan's got a deep voice that's rich and rocky. I could listen to all of them all day.
I also like Neil Gaiman's voice. He's not an actor though. I think I first heard him speak when he was hosting Fox's 13 Nights of Halloween and I've pretty much been hooked ever since. I refuse to admit to how many times I've listened to him reading "A Study in Emerald", just suffice to say that it's got a permanent spot on my MP3 player.
Hmm. Maybe some voices that I like will put me in a better mood about the Vista that I'm stuck with...
