It's a show about aliens, and shipping. The cast was hot, and the pilot episode was like the best thing ever. Then I stuck around for the rest of the series because I loved the characters, and like I said... the shipping was unbelievable.
Roswell is the reason fandom exists in the first place. And don't let Harry Potter fans tell you otherwise. We were the original online fanning community.
We invented fanvids, fanfics, and everything else in fandom (I'm lying now). But seriously. It was going on when I was in high school, and before I knew anything about fandom. I fell in love with the show, because of the characters, and the potential that the show had.
It fizzled on the air because of lack of interest from the cast, producers, writers and networks... but the fans were the ones that kept it alive. Because we all knew that is could have been pure gold.
That's why I exist so hardcore in the Roswell Fandom, because for us, fanon is more real than canon. It's strictly an outside-the-show love that many people have kept going. It's the only fandom I know where we're all like, "Oh, but that doesn't really count, because the only reason the did _such and such_ was because the producers wanted it." It's like we can dismiss canon because we know the reasons behind the actions.
It's a great thing, to be presented with such wonderful characters and be able to go anywhere with them. The show didn't find it's potential, but we (the fans) have kept it alive in the fanning community.
You should join. It would be super fun to watch it for the first time, and the community is no spoilers, so it will be like it's still on the air.
