Well time for I journal update I suppose. School is going about the same. Though what was really new was this past weekend.
I, Amy, and little Roger made the trip this past Friday to Kansas to see Lydia (prairieghost), Susan (suanskatra), and Bruce. It took about 7.5 hours to get there from here in Arlington, TX, and traveling a distance of about 410 miles or so. It was great weather all the way up to Kansas and quite a scenic route. Much to my surprise most of the two-lane roads we took through Oklahoma and Kansas after getting out of Tulsa had speed limits of 65 miles/hr for the most part: so that made for a generally quick and some fun passing of cars on the two-lane roads.
After traversing a couple of gravel roads at the end we finally pulled up in their driveway. Almost immediately upon stepping out of the car I hear Lydia shout from her upstairs room, “There here. There here.” A few seconds later Lydia comes running out straight towards me and jumps at me as to tackle-pounce-hug me: good thing she weighs very little or I would have been eating dirt. That caught me a bit by surprise. Then Ma (Susan) and give her a hug and I shake Bruce’s hand.
Of course Ma was already fixing supper for the evening. After supper me, Ma, and Lydia head on out to the local super Wal-Mart to get some groceries and of course some ingredients for some chocolate crinkle cookies that Lydia promised to make (they are very good). After arriving back and unloading the groceries, Bruce and Ma proceed to teach me how to play the multi-player solitaire game of nerts. It is quite a fun game but I will not explain it here.
The next I helped them unloaded their bus full of boxes and stack them various places in there house. This quite fun considering most boxes had to be carried up a narrow flight of stairs that went up at about a 45 degree angle and it also helped to wake the night owl (Lydia) up early since I so rudely dumped some of her boxes by her door; Lydia is not a morning person and her face more than adequately shows that early in the morning. After finishing that we ended up burning some of the boxes that were later unpacked and doing a controlled burn a part of the area where Bruce is going to put a garden. Again we ended the night with a good supper and a few rounds of nerts. Of course I couldn’t go to sleep even after laying in bed for half an hour so I got up and went outside to stare at the stars for awhile. It was a beautifully clear night sky, which made it easy to see the stars (not to mention it was in the country away from the city lights and even the sound of cars driving by). As I looked at the stars I could hear owls hoot in the distance, some distant dogs barking, and at least on small pack of coyotes yipping and howling in the distance. After that I ended the night by watching the movie Star Trek: First Contact.
The next day there wasn’t many boxes left to move so I ended up watch most of Secondhand Lions with Bruce and then after that Me, Amy, little Roger, and Lydia went to Iola (I think) to pick up one of there remaining cats at Lydia’s Grandma’s house of course that was after stopping at Wal-Mart for toothpaste and Sonic for burgers and slushie or two or three. Ended up later watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding which was a great movie (never seen it before I have). Then we all (except Lydia) enjoyed some popcorn in front of a nice fire. I finally ended the night with me and Lydia playing a few rounds of nerts and talking together.
I and Amy and little Roger enjoyed the trip quite well. Being in Kansas with Ma, Bruce, and Lydia was like being with friends that we had always known even though it was the first time meeting face to face. I enjoyed being there and talking with Ma, helping Bruce, and picking on Lydia repeatedly (of course little Roger thought Lydia was a good playmate and constantly wanted to head up to her room to look at all the stuff in her room or to draw). Quite frankly I didn’t really want to leave I enjoyed being there so much: it was like being with a really close family that gets along well and has lots of fun and that just love each other. Hopefully we can make it back up to Kansas sometime soon.
