Of course you realize, this means WAR(ner)!

The parent company of our local NBC affiliate just pulled their signal from our cable company!

The parent company (LIN TV) of the Austin NBC affiliate (KXAN) wants the cable company (Time Warner) to pay for the signal. The same signal that you can get for free from an antenna.

The cable company has been running a looping PSA on the channel explaining what's going on, how you can still watch (some) of the shows on NBC.com (bypassing the affiliate and their parent company), and how to hook up your computer to your TV for an "enhanced viewing experience".

Time Warner Cable has also been advertising on this PSA a website that they have set up that explains what's going on:

You can watch parts of the PSA there.

I wanted to record the PSA, but unfortunately I left my TV tuner at the new house. I'll grab it soon and bring it back to the apartment and will record it if it's still playing.

As the cable company states, "negotiations have broke down" (but are still going). I think it's starting to become a lot worse than just "broke down", so grab the popcorn--the best thing on TV is TV itself!

Edit: Also check out KXAN's page about the controversy:

As you can see, each page blames the other.

Personally, I'm loving all of this! Whenever two market leaders but heads, it gives competition a window to gain market share. Any ground gained towards equal market share reduces prices benefiting the customer in the long run, even if there are short-term inconveniences. Let the battle continue!!
