Good gawd, anybody remember Southpark Meadows, that open grassy field that I think they used to have concerts on?
It's now a humungoid strip center with so many shops it's as if Lakeline threw up at I-35 and Slaughter Lane.
What started with a Super Wal-Mart has turned into a shopping zone the size of a San Marcos outllet mall, but with normal mall and strip center businesses.
They've already opened a Hobby Lobby, Ross, BB&B, Circuit City, Office something, Lane Bryant, Rooms-to-Go, Game Stop, PetSmart, and on the opposite corner a Home Depot, as well as lots of fast food joints.
JCPenny's looks nearly complete. In one of the sets that has most of the rockwork nearly complete, they have signs showing which will become a Jason's Deli, Waterloo IceHouse, Jamba Juice, Austin Java (I think), a mexican restaurant, and a few other food outlets all clustered around a large playscape. I wouldn't be surprised if these become finished when we're not paying attention.
There still many vacant spots between businesses in the strips, as well as many untouched pad sites marked off and labeled available. One that is currently flattened dirt and rock, no foundation poured yet, will soon become a Borders the signs say. There's enough flatened dirt next to the JCPenny's to put another equally sized department store.
I wouldn't be surprised if many of their competitors suddenly show up on an opposite corner. Ooo! Maybe they'll finally open a Fozoli's down here. :)
