Adventures in San Francisco

Mar 02, 2009 03:30

It is Sunday evening - about halfway trough my trip.  Still in San Fransisco and apparently missing a big old snowstorm back in new England. This makes me sad. <-(note the sarcasm)
So far I've been lucky with the weather.  Fingers crossed for the next two days.  sigh.  I really have to go back to ware its cold?  :(

So i arrived nice and safe on Tuesday afternoon and was met my nissa   who took me to a  a bakery that does all gluten free stuff.  We had gluten free pizza. it was yummy.  For those that might find this info useful they ship - their site is www.mariposabaking.com
That evening we nissa , stevefava  and I went into San Francisco and had diner at a place called Weird Fish that does gluten free fish and chips. We met up with unseelie  and his lady Tiki and also Jess and another gentleman who's name I am totally blanking on right now.  It was good to see unseelie  again - its been about 9 years.

I took a ride on one of the trolleys - but will go again because I ended up inside not the hanging off the side - and I think I want to do that.  Went to the Japanese tea garden on Thursday and spent 4.5 hours taking photos their :p    then went to the gallery opening at the Rayko Photo Center.  It was very crowded.  But fun. stevefava  went with me and we met  unseelie  there, and also Jessica and Tiki.  I have such nice friends :)

On Wed evening I went with nissa  to see Coraline in 3D. it was amazing - if you can see it in the 3D  do so. Neil Gaimon rocks.

I went to Chinatown on Friday - and barely made it a block on Grant st before I was sucked into a store by all the pretty shiny things.  I made it out alive only to get another half block and be sucked into another.  but...shiny prety things....
Made it a little farther..took some more photos...and got sucked into another one by the very pretty  silk kurta in the window.   yes I tried it on and one came home with me....but its so prety...    i will probably go back and try and restrain myself -  have to take a photo of the gate dont I?

The idea was tossed around about going to wonder-con (comic book convention)  for a while on Saturday but Jessica informed us that it was so crowded you couldn't move so we didn't. but i would have been cool to see Luke and Leia, and Chaina and Po'atu Zan, and Lt Ivanava. and have the opportunity to buy steam-punk stuff - like goggles.

Friday evening I went to the Launch Party for nissa  for the Almeda on camera show that she is part of.. we went after to take a few photos, and then I went with her and nissa   and I went around a little and did some more.   Tonight she showed us some of the photos shes taken over the past 48h hours (the time limit for the show) She has some really beautiful shots - I think if she has to only pick a few for the actual show its going to be tough to decide.

Saturday after shooting I went with  nissa  and joedecker   to the local Tiki lounge where we were met by stevefava  .  Tiki lounges are evil.   Sure the drinks are yummy  and  its very fun... and before you know it your apparently nattering on in Gaelic.  and feeling all kinds of not good in the morning.  Thought that could have been the Mai-Tai.  Needless to say - not much seeing of sights happened today.  But as it was rainy and grey..that's fine.

So I have a few things still on the list of things to do:
Go to Geradeli Sq and get chocolate.  and see Pier 39 (or whichever one it is) with all the seals (or is is sea lions)
Take photos of the golden gate bridge.  Because like the trolly's..one must when in San Francisco. Its like a rule or something.
go to cliff house and see the camera Obscura  and the ruins of the baths there.
go back to Chinatown and take more photos - this time actually go to the gate and take a photo - and also go to the fortune cookie factory - where (at least according to one guidebook) they have fortune cookies with a little more adult fortunes.  I must acquire some of these :)  More than likely their will me more shopping.
go back to the cafe in Japantown simply to get more Moshi cake. its yummy.  and not bad for me - its made with sweet rice- no wheat.  I must find a source  or learn to make it.
Go to the museum of modern art - they have a photography exhibit that includes works by Edward Steichen.
go to the Hayit. I can't  believe i almost forgot that!.

So now I go to sleep and be up early to go back into the city  and fingers crossed that its not raining.  so much to see and only 2 days left!
