"They had killed themselves over our dying forests, over manatees maimed by propellers as they surfaced to drink from garden hoses; they had killed themselves at the sight of used tires stacked higher than the pyramids; they had killed themselves over the failure to find a love none of us could ever be. In the end, the tortures tearing the Lisbon girls pointed to a simple reasoned refusal to accept the world as it was handed down to them, so full of flaws."
The Virgin Suicides

the story;
The Lisbon girls: Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, & Therese Lisbon

Set in suburban Michigan in 1970s, The Virgin Suicides (by Jeffrey Eugenides) centers on the five Lisbon sisters, all of whom commit suicide within a year of each other. Their motives are never explained, and their actions are only presented from the view of a collective of unnamed outsiders.

this mix;
To fit with the tone of the material, I tried to find songs for this mix that are a balance of dream-like and  melancholy.

listen here

the same person (veruca salt) no, i am not the same person

happiness (goldfrapp) we'll be swimming in the sea / of wisdom and serenity

two days short tomorrow (two gallants) are you as composed as the space you fill?

the stupid, the proud (iamx) god is dead / we get to sleep tonight

speak for me (cat power) forfeit the shape to fit

melancholy sky (goldfrapp) brutal starry eyes

red right ankle (the decemberists) whatever differences our lives have been / we together make a limb

the funeral (band of horses) and to know you is hard; we wonder / to know you all wrong, we were.
