This past week seemed like it was compressed into one very long day. And all I have to show for it are wind-burned cheeks.
Monday and Tuesday were marked by the usual mind-numbingly tedious administrative tasks, but Wednesday saved me with 12 full hours of research! I spent Wednesday on Cape Cod studying the effect of winter processes on the salt marsh islands. Yeah, yeah. I don't aim to bore with details. I just want to tell my survival suit tale! Putting on that bright orange body suit whisked me back to those fond days of being bundled in a snowsuit so that my arms would stick out at right angles to my body. Several fisherman snickered in our direction. Yeah, they were out there in long-sleeved t-shirts and jeans! Anyway, I'm very glad that I wore that suit because I fell into the freezing cold Atlantic.(It was a rather cumbersome get-up with hip waders on underneath--and I am the high ruler of mishap.) Aside from having the pleasure of traipsing about the beautiful marsh islands in the height of fashion, I enjoyed the privilege of roaming where others are forbidden. Oh, and I saw a seal. Sometimes it does pay to be a geologist. Sometimes.
