Adventures in homeownership, Day 0 & 1

Day Zero:

Go to closing at Abstract office. Sign papers for an hour. Leave. Return to pick up housewarming gift from realtor. Leave. Return to sign a sheet of paper (again). Leave. Hope that phone doesn't ring again.

Day One:

Find Hamster? In the furnace? Umm. Okay... So much for the default "call the landlord" clause when something weird happens.

Got the kitchen cleaned up, laundry done (on site! Yay!), and living room carpet shampooed. Also vacuumed all the floors on the main & second levels. Don't have much over there yet - pretty much just things we bought yesterday (dehumidifier, two box fans, carpet cleaner) and cleaning supplies - broom, mop, swifer thing, various bottles of chemicals, vacuum cleaner, etc. Only load that got moved over was the snow wheels/tires for the Mazda - they were easily accessible, and take up a lot of space here. (Hardly a drop in the bucket in the new garage.)

Garage!

Washer & Dryer!

NEED A COUCH. Can't begin to count the number of times today when I wished there was something comfy and soft to flop down into for a while.

We met our new neighbor yesterday too. (One of them, anyhow.) The lady on our south side (same house, without all the updates, basically) is very nice. Has been in her house for 47 years - remembers walking through the neighborhood when she was young, saying "I want to live in one of those houses someday"... and snapped hers up when it came on the market. Pretty cool. Her name is Karen. She has a niece in Coleraine, I guess... who is looking at a dining room set. If she decides not to buy it, Karen will let us know. It's a table, 6 chairs, hutch & buffet for $100! Said it would fit very nicely in our dining room, too. (She would know - she's got the same house.) Pretty sure we'll snap it up given the opportunity. It's an older set too, so probably pretty, well constructed, etc.

Lots more carpet to clean tomorrow, as well as getting the living room moved over. (Mostly, anyhow - don't know if the keyboard will fit in the car, or much of the furniture either... but all the miscellaneous stuff can come over, at the very least.)

Bedtime.
