Fannish musings on KLG, part 1

Some very late observations on Kobol's Last Gleaming, part 1. I just watched it again, and this time was finally able to tear my eyes away from the screen for long enough to jot down a couple of notes about things I otherwise forget that I wanted to comment on. So, yes, naturally I had to make use of the rewind button a couple of times, for certain scenes more than others... ::whistles innocently::

- The teaser is incredible. Hardly any dialogue, but the music slowly gathers power while there is a sense of inevitability and unstoppable momentum that just carries events along to their various conclusions.
- Lee and Commander Adama sparring: every time I'm struck by how cocky and how dangerous Lee looks before gets in acouple of good punches. He's enjoying besting the old man just a little too much, methinks.
- The hottest bit of the Lee/Kara scene for me is when Lee ducks his head to kiss the side of Kara's neck. *shiver* It gets me every single time.
- Lee and Comm. Adama again: I have to grin at the identical way neither of them says anything, just glowers when the other asks, "You all right?". Lee's a chip off the old block in more ways than he realises...
- How much do I love the way Adama's killer punch that sends Lee reeling is cut to immediately follow on from Kara calling out his name. Because the effect on Lee of Kara's little indiscretion with Baltar, although he doesn't know it yet, is exactly like a vicious punch from someone whom he trusts. First his father, then Kara - poor Lee!
- Kara gives a little unfocussed frown of what looks like surprise immediately after opening her eyes and seeing Baltar. Oops! I initially thought that she was surprised at herself for calling out Lee's name, and that this is the moment when she realises quite how she feels about Lee. Then I started to wonder whether maybe she wasn't so lost in her fantasy that she was actually surprised to see Gaius in bed with her rather than Lee when she opened her eyes. *g* Could be either, I suppose.
- Lee's "thanks" in reply to his father's comment about not losing control: it ocurred to me that this imples that not losing control is something Lee's achieved consciously. Because he's aware that it's not pretty when he does lose control of that banked down temper of his...

Did I say I love the teaser? Yes? Well, I really do. *g* A few thoughts on the rest of the episode:

- Gaius saying "I don't give a flying frack!" to the President and Billy. Hee!
- It seems an odd thing for Boomer to say, "No, it's not Earth. It's more important than that". This has to be her Inner Cylon speaking. Otherwise how can she (a) know it's Kobol and not Earth? and (b) say that it's more important than Earth? More important than Earth? To the Cylons, maybe.
- I love the way Billy injects some sanity and skepticism into the scene with Roslin and Elosha, when he says “Kobol, like - Kobol?”, with a bewildered frown, as if he can’t believe that they’re seriously suggesting that the planet might be the mythical Home of the Gods.
- That’s quite a Judas kiss Baltar gives Boomer after he’s just encouraged her to kill herself, the slippery weasel! And then in the corridor outside the pilot’s quarters with Six, when he hears the shot, he has a quick look round to make sure that no-one’s seen him before he walks away. Very much in character, and so calculatedly callous (Callis? *g*). His own self preservation is his only driving force.
- Did anyone else pick up on Kara’s little head-tilt after she’s said she’s sorry and Lee refuses her apology. It’s as if she’s saying “fair enough” to herself, as if it’s only what she expected. Or worse, that it’s the response she deserves - after all, why should a screw-up expect anything else. Poor Kara!

Heh, that's longer than I thought it would be. Oh well, current obsession and all that. *g*
