Not that this does much good to put out in to internetland, and ignoring the fact that my random musings are far from profound, I gotta say that the general consensus on Taylor Swift superstardom is pretty misguided. I mean, she's a sweet girl; she's a helluva songwriter and does all her own material (which is a pretty huge feat in any genre of music); and she's sold fifty bajillion albums or something this year. But on live television? She's pretty bad. Which I don't understand. I've seen her live in concert-- she was fantastic! But on televised appearances her voice is weak, off-pitch, and she seems to really struggle. It actually makes me question if her concert performace was legit.
Perez called her performance "easily the best of the ACM awards", but when I actually looked up the performace, I was all "bsuh?". Then I watched Miley and Carrie Underwood. I don't like Miley Cyrus, generally, but she kicked the HELL out of her song, and Carrie Underwood is fan-fricken-tastic, always, even if she's a little cardboard-y. Taylor won a made-up award for bringing young people to country music, and she has (albeit from popified versions of Love Story and others) but I'm really starting to question whether all of the praise is warranted.
Just thinking aloud-- or on little pixels, I suppose.
