This morning, as I was driving down the road, I stopped at the stop sign at the bottom of my hill, but my foot slipped a little off the brake and I rolled forward just a little. Maybe a foot, two feet. A little. Anyways, I was so caught up in my foot slipping off the brake that I had not yet looked to my left and a woman in an SUV came barrelling down the street towards me, leaning on her horn. I was already stopped at this point.
But that is one of the things that annoys me about people. Most people never give anyone the benefit of the doubt. When the WAL*MART cashier was rude to me, I defended her in my head, "Maybe she's been working all night, or she's been here since 5 am and it's time for her break and she's tired." So I said, "I hope you have a great morning" and flashed the most sincere smile I could muster for someone who had gotten really angry at my cereal when it fell over on the conveyor belt.
Then, I went into the post office and as soon as I walked in the door, a woman from behind the counter barked at me in a very accusatory tone, "You're not here to pick up hold mail, are you?" I looked all around, thinking she must be talking to the lady who walked in behind me...I assured her no, I wasn't, and tried to be as nice as possible about buying my 10 stamps that I needed. And on my way out, this very hurried-looking middle aged gentleman held the door for me and the older lady coming in at the same time as me. I wanted to say to him, "You, sir, are chivalrous. Thank you."
People are strange...
