Hi, all! I've been away quite a bit, in part because I've had the on-the-edge-of-sickness, feeling-like-crap feeling for...oh, all of January and a good chunk of December. :-/ Not sure what that's all about. Hope something will come of it in March when I have my check up ( Read more... )

One of the reasons I decided to institute a change in both diet (not go on a diet, change the diet) and exercise involved weight, yes. I'd gotten up near 100 Kg. Now, add a lead suit to do radiological procedures (flouroscopy, x-rays) and add another 15-18 Kg. Knees just simply said, D00d!

Now, likely I walk a lot more during a go to Hospital day than you do while at work. Nurses do that a lot; enough so that Hospital ran a campaign for a while issuing free pedometers and encouraging people to keep track of steps to calculate how much walking, and therefor exercise they did. So I am less likely to discount those steps while working. They constitute a major portion of my walk. I did add walking more places on the Ranch. And I changed elevator habits, climbing stairs a lot more. Even if what I needed to do was climb two flights, walk level to another stairs en route (or change my route a bit), and climb another two flights.

It took some time, dropped about 12 Kg, am keeping it off, feel a lot better as far as joints are concerned. So, persevere, patience.

Yeah, like I said, I *had* managed to improve the joints. The ankles (and, today, the shins on the outside of my leg) are still a problem, however. Today I noticed that I'm tending to do a thing I'm prone to - I have supination (walking on the outside edge of the feet and not so much on the inside, failure to 'roll' the foot when walking) and if I concentrated and forced the roll, my legs and ankles felt better.

So I'm going to try to be more aware of that and walk properly. I really can't afford to go back to a foot doctor - I saw one when I was a kid - and the inserts are bloody expensive and bloody uncomfortable. So. I'll do what I can by myself, I think.

I have 77,000 steps for the week. :)
