Spring break was quite the blessing. I did not accomplish half the things I had hoped to, but still at least things were accomplished and I didn’t have to contend with waking early every morning to routine. I was able to work a 19.5 hour week, which was needed and appreciated despite my meager pay. I hope to deposit my entire paycheck from this coming two-week period into the bank again. I have of late taken to carefully regulating my funds in the hopes to lessen my spending. In January I began by eliminating the temptation of buying school lunch by passing that half-hour in my art classroom. It has succeeded flawlessly and I spend no money at school. I have decided not to attend class night as well, which will save me $15, I believe. I haven’t spent money at the mall in ages, at least since the beginning of the school year, excluding Christmas shopping. Just recently however I was able to spend the gift card I received from Adrienne for Christmas. I bought myself a half-priced Gryffindor shirt (I would, naturally, have preferred the Hufflepuff one, but realized they were only sold in men’s styled tee shirts) and with the remaining balance I bought Lauren a Slytherin shirt which she seemed fairly pleased with.
Fortunately over break I also had the opportunity to practice driving. I’ve been on Chester and Baltimore Pike, MacDade Boulevard, 420, Fairview and Morton Avenue, the Industrial Highway and many an intimidating road I do not know the name of since it was dark and my father unintentionally got us lost. That night we drove past Neuman College, Chichester, and Sun Valley High school, CN Skate Palace, and through Aston. We were near Delaware at one point and the roads kept getting busier and more narrow and curvy with less streetlights. Eventually my father and I switched places so that he could find I-95 and get us back somewhere vaguely familiar. Apart from that I believe the furthest I’ve driven is Granite Run Mall, since we generally just drive in some sort of large circle with no particular destination.
I also had the pleasure of spending nearly twenty-four hours in the company of my Aunt Cathie, cousin Katie, friend Katie, and sister Lauren. We slept over my aunt’s house so that we could watch the Star Wars trilogy in surround sound on her big-screen television. Lauren, Katie B. and I having all been fans of Star Wars were eager to watch them all again and Katie H. whom had seen none of them before got to watch them for the first time. Unfortunately she could not spend the night and has yet to see Return of the Jedi. The following day we went to Kohl’s and I am now equipped with new sneakers, which I needed seeing as my old ones were purchased at the beginning of sophomore year.
This school year will be over in mere moments and while I am not going on a senior week, I crave the summer. There are several day trips I am eager to take to both the shore and various anime conventions. I will have more freedom this summer too, since I will hopefully be able to procure my license sometime in early June. I am currently entertaining the delusion that VAST will tour and if such an event were to occur I would certainly go to great lengths to attend the concert. I eagerly await the release of the 6th book and may consider breaking my traditional Borders trip in exchange for attending one of the larger release parties, but I think I’d rather not. Borders has been the release spot for me and I believe I can go nowhere else, despite the crowds, I would feel out of place. Although 2003’s crowd of 2,000 was a bit much and was quite a difference from the estimated 300 I would say turned up in 2000 for GoF.
More commentary will hopefully follow this. I would not have ended in such an abrupt manner but it was brought to my attention that two reader responses are needed for my Jane Eyre independent reading.
