OMFG, WORLD OF YAY! I didn't even know that there was a new Dick Francis novel out, let alone that it was a Sid Halley one! Picked it up this morning and had read it by 4PM.

There should be fanfic. Why isn't there fanfic??? There are 4 novels now, it's a hugely popular character, WHY OH WHY ISN'T THERE FANFIC???

You'll tell me all about it when you've read it, won't you? Please?

And I'd write you fanfic, but I have no bunny, and there are so many other bunnies in my head I have no time for non-existing ones.

Well, I read it already today. :) I think it's a better book than 'Come to Grief' - less exciting and actiony but also less melodramatic and more grounded in the real world - but obviously nowhere near 'Whip Hand'. The last 20 pages are fabulous. Email me on it if you want to me elaborate, I wouldn't want to spoil anyone unsuspecting reading the comments!

Wish I had a bunny myself, but I have a block when it comes to writing fiction set in 'the real world' as such. Same as why I never wrote Murder City - I need the fantasy/sci-fi element somehow. But if you throw a few ideas at me as challenges, maybe one of them might take root?

Throwing a few ideas would require having a few ideas, which I don't.

And I'll totally email you for more information. :-)

Well, challenge prompts aren't the same thing as fully fledged ideas...

It's called 'Under Orders' and was out on the 7th September. :)

Sid has to be one of my fave fictional characters. Got addicted when I was about 16 and read 'Whip Hand' for the first time!

I've never actually done that challenge. Isn't it only one of five fandom requests or something that actually get picked, though?

You make 3 requests, and your receiver gets to pick one of the three. But! When the challenge is closed, all unwritten requests are opened up to anyone who wants to continue to write more - so you have a shot of getting fic all year.

Maybe I'll give it a try, then, this year. I'm all for random fandoms! :)
