I ran across this trying to track down old fic posts to tag. It's from the 'fics that don't exist' meme that was going around a while back. Thing is, I kinda think it should exist, so I'm pasting it into here again where it's accessible while I mull over it.
Chrestomanci does the Dishes - rated PG, humour/adventure story, 15,000 words approx
Millie rails at Chrestomanci to make him do the dishes, a task he normally escapes from by virtue of Many and Varied Excuses: "but - silverware! No magic! And I'll have you know my hands are extremely sensitive and detergent brings me out in a rash!" Washing away in a bit of a snit while Millie goes off to do Therapeutic Shopping, Chrestomanci accidentally breaks an ornate plate. This is swiftly followed by a "Whoops - didn't know Millie had started using that to serve muffins" realisation. The Extremely Troublesome Genie that had been locked inside the plate - which was some years ago given to the most powerful enchanter in the worlds to guard - emerges, swats Chrestomanci with distressing ease, and buggers off.
Darn.
There follows a series of Interesting Adventures as Chrestomanci and his team try to find the sorceror who originally forged the plate to figure out how to fix the thing and re-seal the spell, and recapture the Genie before it wreaks too much havoc on all the known worlds. All the while blaming it entirely on Millie for making him do the washing up.
(This story is set before 'Charmed Life'.)
