Dear people of the world:
PMS is real, and actually, many women suffer from it, contrary to what you've been told for most of your life. It is caused by the fluctuation of a woman's hormones prior to her menstruation. We all know what the symptoms are, so I won't rehash them. However, PMS symptoms are usually surmountable, maybe with the help of OTC medications, such as ibuprofen, Midol, etc.
However, if symptoms are severe enough to impact a woman's life, and she cannot control or alleviate them, she is most likely suffering from PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This condition goes beyond OTC medications, and typically requires treatment with some sort of prescription, be it HBC or something else. PMDD is not particularly common, however, some women do suffer from it.
So, recap and nutshell: PMS and PMDD are very real. They are not myths concocted by women as excuses to be bitches. Though many try very hard to stay rational and nice during this time, for some it is more difficult.
The end.
