Being a sister is tough work. Being an older one is even tougher. Or would that be 'more tough'? Oh well. We all know that blood is thicker than water, as the saying goes. Maybe that is why so many of us drown rather than float when we get 'together'. Family ties, I've noticed, are best explained in those gag gift cards people send to each other on birthdays. One of my favorites was a card that roughly said 'I was born into this. You chose this. Remember that.' I gave it to my sister-in-law on her 23rd birthday.
But I digress. Going back to blood ties, I would die for my sister. But there have been times when I would have gladly killed her as well. Or at least done some major bodily damage to her hard-headed self! Life with a sister nearly 8 years younger than myself has not always been a piece of cake (mmmmmm, cake), but it has been pretty sweet.
It is hard to narrow down everything we have done together to fit into a few paragraphs, but in the coming days I will try. Life, when you take a step back and look at it, is what you make of it. Drowning and floating aside, M. has been my lifejacket since she was born.
