What does it all mean?

My granny always says you can tell who your true friends are when they are around when you are in trouble ( Read more... )

I completely understand about the friends thing. I try to look at it more as a circle though - I might be there or do something for one friend and although they might not return the favour they might do something or be there for someone else. That person in turn.... and so on. It all comes back around eventually and not always from the person you expect.

I wish you luck with the weight loss. Get your doc to check out things like your thyroid. That can prevent you losing weight.

Hey thats true- I had my thyroid checked a few years ago (but as I said to my friend Gabby above) they never even mention the possibility that it could be medical. He looked at my chart and saw I had been 200+ for 3-4 years.
I told them it all started when my Dr put me on Elavil in 2002 and I gained 10-15 lbs in a few months and was eating constantly.
I looked it up on the internet and it says Elavils been a problem for weight gain.
You are right about it being a circle- I just feel so lonely and isolated here- if there are a few times I need a favor-its hard to ask (and I live alone so occasionally I need one :P)
Thank you for replying and I havent gotten my 300 DVD yet-have you?

I don't have it yet. i will most likely buy the 2 disc Aussie version - it comes with a mice tin box but I also have to get the UK version. I will most likely end up with several different ones - I am a sucker for packaging! I hear there is one edition coming out in a gift pack with a Spartan replica helmet. I might have to get that one too! Sad I know!

A lot of meds can cause weight problems. I would certainly take it up with your doctor. Is there something he could change you onto that causes lesss side effects than the Elavil. Definitely get them to check if there is a medical reason for it or you will be trying to lose weight for nothing. that can be very disheartening!

I was taken off the elavil, as soon as I told him I was gaining weight, and put back on the regular meds.
But no matter what I do now (years later)-no weight comes off.
I worked out for 2 months this winter and gained 15 lbs (and I wasnt eating more).
At least if they suggested the possibility it was something medical -I would feel better.

My typing is atrocious tonight! MICE tin box? What's all that about?

I would think if you had tried for two months and gained then there must be a medical reason!

Who's got mice in a tin box-oh I read it as nice anyways :P
They had that special packaging at Best Buy (with helmut, trading cards etc) but I didn't go get it -I'll get mine next month :)

Yeah but then they tell me I gained during those two months- because I ate too much which is BS- I am not a big eater and can only eat small amounts every 2-3 hours.
Back then I was having cereal for breakfast, lunch at the school cafeteria (high school had some good lunches) and a small dinner.

Oh we don't have Best Buy over here! :( I wonder if anywhere online has them? I'll have to check it out!

You know I was trying to lose some weight for about 8 years - not much - just 10 to 14 pounds but it wouldn't come off no matter what I did. Eating sensibly, exercising more. People started suggesting it was my age and perhaps it was the weight I was supposed to be! Then I tried earlier this year the Kellogs Special K diet for two weeks. have you tried that? You eat a bowl of cereal for two meals a day and have a balanced third meal. so i was having Special K for breakfast and lunch and a meal in the evening. I allowed myself fruit of a cereal bar for snacks mid morning and afternoon and drank plenty of water. I lost 12 pounds in 8 weeks and it has stayed off! (I have put a couple of pounds back in whilst in Scotland last week but I can just go back to my creals and lose that again!)

I figured it was pretty drastic but I love breakfast cereals anyway so that was easy and I think my body just needed that kick start!

Yeah my doctor told me the special K diet was not enough calories and was putting my body into starvation mode- I was like wtf?
Especially since I had been doing the diet for a few months and no weight loss-Special K cant even save me :P

Hmmm it really sounds like they need to find out why you can't lose! The Special K one is perfect for me! As long as I make sure that third meal is a good balanced one and I have fruit or dereal bars for snacks it is plenty!

Have you been back to the docs since you started this post?
