Controversial post warning!!

This is a super controversial post.

The topic at hand will be the entire "lol dark skin" issue that's been the butt of variety show jokes since forever.

I don't know if people realize this or not but it's not merely a television show running joke here. Amongst family members, they discuss too about how so-and-so is getting rather dark lately and so-and-so has such nice milky skin.

I don't want to compare skin tone to a fashion accessory like earrings or something else.

I just want to clear up where this whole thing actually came from.

Back in the day, poor people were farmers. They worked out in the sun and fields and they would be tanned because of harsh work outdoors. Their rich master counterparts stayed indoors, had servants follow them about town with their umbrellas and carriages and were less tan.

Now let me ask you a question: would you rather be poor or rich?

People want to be associated with the rich. Thus, if you were not as tan as someone else, you appeared to be rich because you didn't do work outdoors. Tan skin became synonymous with the poor farm worker and pale skin the rich royalty.

The number of people who have tried to argue to me about how the pale skin fascination came about from white people conquering Asia and white people being seen as the greatest of races and therefore having paler skin is better because it's closer to being like a white person.... Please. Just stop. That's not the reason, can you even think about what you are saying for a moment.

Am I trying to say that it's ok for idols and actors/actresses to make jokes about dark vs. light skin? Of course not. It's hurtful to those being laughed at and there's nothing they can do about their skin colour.

I just don't want the whole Asian people want to look like white people because white people are the greatest story to become a thing.

I would have posted this on my other, more famous blog but the person I run my blog with actually believes the white person = great bullshit story of why the tan skin joke is alive on television.

rants, in need of new friends, lol
