so i had my orientation at OU yesterday. it went decently but i'm also just sick and tired of the same old bullshit from the US educational system.
course registration was a total bitch. i'm going to spend the entire weekend trying to un-fuck my schedule for next semester. so what happened was that we were told we could bring a laptop if we wanted, but we didnt need one because there would be computers in order to register for classes. when we got there we go into some classroom that literally has no computers and they hand out like, 4 ipads for us to register with. the fuck? they were so tiny and you couldnt type with a full keyboard so it was like using one finger at a time to type and search and it took so long. they didnt have enough ipads to pass out so some people literally just had to wait for other people to sign up for the classes before they could sign up for theirs. and everyone was having trouble and couldnt get into anything they needed because 1) the courses were full or 2) the courses had pre-requisites or 3) they had time conflicts with other necessary classes. like i remember my very first class registration at miami and i cried. legit cried because it was so awful. my older sister cried at her "first time" also. class registration is so stupid, you would think that as an incoming freshman people would ensure you have a good experience because you know, people spend so much money going to school in the US but instead everyone has to take bullshit courses their first 3 semesters because they cant get into the courses they need, which is why it takes everyone 5 years to graduate now instead of 4.
whatever. ranting about US education is a neverending thing for me so i'll just move on now. i found out the day before orientation that i was required to take a chemistry placement test at 8:45 the next morning and it was kind of freaking me out since i hadn't taken chemistry in over 5 years and even when i did take it i sort've did pretty badly at it. i was power-studying for like all of 20 minutes and thats all the studying i did. once i did take the test 1/3 of it turned out to be algebra which was a shock because i didnt study algebra at all and it legit havent taken algebra since middle school, but i ended up doing great at that bit somehow. the chemistry bit was harder, though.
i also didnt have any time to get my parking permit. they set aside NO TIME for anyone to take care of things like this, and by the time the day's schedule was over, the parking place was closed. i was like oh great, now i'll try to park somewhere monday and it'll take me 30 minutes and then i'll be ticketed every hour for like $100 so at the end of the day i'll have racked up $2,000 or something. whateva
i'm still excited, just kind've wished things would be different but i guess it's just more of the same across the board here in ohio.
