Character Information
Name: Beatrix
Canon Origin/Series: Final Fantasy IX
School Year: going to her 7th
Gender: Female.
Age: 17
Out of school living location: Yorkshire, England
Blood status: Pureblood

Personality:
To be frank, Beatrix can be quite a frightening person, as she hardly shows any emotion and her face is often serious and stern. Her cold and cruel indifference is enough to make the temperature around her drop to zero. Beatrix herself is aware of these parts in her personality, but does not mind: after all, having others fear you helps you to gain their respect.

Beatrix may seem like someone who lives her life according to the rule book, which is partly true. She is a perfectionist to certain degrees, expecting from herself nothing less than excellence and knows that going against the rules could do harm to her good reputation. She is aware that people expect lot from her, and letting down those expectations would be too great a humiliation for her pride to take. In addition, she is very confident about herself, which makes her to come across as a arrogant and bit self-centered, and thanks to her rather cunning and sarcastic tongue one might think that she looks down on everyone else.

But like always, everything is not what it seems; under that hard and icy exterior you can find a kind hearted woman. Even though it’s not something that you’d often notice; Beatrix is very noble person who is always there to protect those who have earned her respect and friendship. "She always has a shoulder ready for someone to cry on, and her arms are always open if any of her friends need protection or help, as she is always ready to give comforting speeches. So, even if her heart is hidden very well under her ever so serious and formal mask, it still is quite big and warm. Thanks to this, and her natural leadership skills, Beatrix can be seen not only as scary and cruel, but also as a very admirable and respectable person.

Canon Background:
There isn’t much given information about Beatrix’s childhood or youth. The only thing that’s ever told in canon is that even when she was child she was trained in swordsmanship, and has been serving Alexandria’s royal family since a young age.

At the present time in the game Beatrix is general and leader of the Alexandrian army along with Captain Steiner. Even though she is seen briefly in the beginning of the game, she is not properly introduced until later, when she is leading an attack and invasion of the Kingdom of Burmecia on Queen Brahne’s order. After she and her soldiers have annihilated the whole kingdom, Beatrix is encountered by the Zidane (the main character of the game) and his friends. In order to buy time so that her queen could escape safely, Beatrix challenged Zidane and his group to a fight. Even though it was four against one, Beatrix’s victory was easy. But instead of killing our heroes Beatrix decided to leave them to die from their wounds.

After surviving from the battle against Beatrix, Zidane travels with his friends to Cleyra where the survivors from the Burmecia have escaped to, but it didn’t take long time before Cleyra was also attacked by Beatrix’s army. Though, this time, instead of just destroying the place, Beatrix went to Cleyra’s cathedral to steal away the rare jewel. Before she could leave Cleyra, Zidane stopped and challenged her to another battle, which again ended up in Beatrix’s victory.

Beatrix returned to the ‘Red Rose’, the queen’s private airship, with her army. But before delivering the jewel to her mistress, she wondered about the change in queen’s caring personality and even questioned Brahne’s methods of handling things with war. However, she soon though remembered her place as a soldier and ignored these questions while returning to Alexandria-without noticing that Zidane had managed to get into the ship too, along with his friends.

Her belief and loyalty was being tested again by her doubts when she brought the jewel to Brahne and she managed to overhear her plans about to execute princess Garnet once they had gotten Eidolons pulled out of her. Even though her heart and sense of reason caused her to hesitate, Beatrix still decided to continue following orders, just like she had been trained to do.

Princess Garnet was however saved by Zidane’s group after the Eidolons had been taken away from her. But as the heroes were trying to escape from Alexandria’s Castle they were stopped by no one else than Beatrix. After losing for the third time to this general, Zidane managed to open Beatrix’s eyes after he showed how serious Garnet’s condition was. She was reminded that she had sworn to protect Alexandria and its future, not Queen Brahne. So, Beatrix helped Zidane to escape from the castle with his friends and Princess Garnet by stalling the enemies.

Beatrix was next time seen after Kuja (who had been playing a puppet master in the shadows until then) had killed Queen Brahne and Garnet had returned back to Alexandria. Seeing how crushed the princess was about her mother’s death, Beatrix did everything she could in order to the help young girl to become a queen, by listening her worries and helping her dressing up. But soon after the coronation of the new queen, Kuja attacked the Alexandria with his monsters and Eidolon that had been stolen from Garnet. During that invasion Beatrix stormed out to the city with Steiner in order to protect the citizens. But even though they managed to destroy the monster, Alexandria was destroyed by the Eidolon called Bahamut. After the destruction Beatrix stayed behind and to look over the rebuilding of Alexandria as Garnet left with Steiner and Zidane to find Kuja and put an end to his murderous plans.

She makes another appearance near the end of the game as she flies with Red Rose and helps Zidane’s group to get into Memoria by stopping the Silver Dragons. She is still seen after the last battle of the game; as the world’s peace had been restored and Alexandria rebuilt Beatrix felt like her duty was over and plans to leave Alexandria. However, Steiner, who had finally confessed his love to her, managed to convince her to stay there and protect the Alexandria and queen Garnet together with him.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
Billy. Beatrix was born to a wealthy pureblood family of Aurors. Her future career and path was decided for her before she could even walk or speak; she would continue her family’s footsteps and become an Auror as well. Her parents had given her a great deal of information about different kinds of hexes in order to train and prepare her for the future they had chosen for her, without really giving any room for her to build her own character. But Beatrix, who had been raised to respect her family and other authority figures, never minded this.

As she began her first years in Hogwarts, Beatrix’s attitude was rather pompous and spoiled thanks to the special attention she had received at home. But she calmed down during her third year after losing in a duel, at school’s duel-club, to older student; Albert Steiner. Steiner and Beatrix had known each other from the early childhood, thanks to their families, who had been friends for a long time, and so formed a kind of friendly rivalry. The loss was such a great humiliation to Beatrix that she became determined to develop her skills even more her skills even in her aim for the perfection, so that she could one day beat Steiner.

When Beatrix was in her fourth year at Hogwarts, her family was attacked by the two dark wizards during the Christmas. Even though her parents managed to defeat the attackers, their victory did not come without a loss; both, Beatrix and her mother were injured in the battle. While Beatrix was left with some serious burns to her face and her left eye was blinded, by the time her mother reached Saint Mungo’s hospital, but it was too late for her and so she died leaving her husband and daughter behind.

After the attack Beatrix’s father became even stricter than before and demanded even more from his daughter. At this point Beatrix herself began to grow an interest in the Muggles and their ways of battle. After all, if there were ever to be a situation where she couldn’t use magic she would need to find another way to defend herself. Swords, in particular, caught her attention and so she began to train herself in swordsmanship whenever possible. Of course, she needed to keep this research and hobby of hers secret from everyone else. Especially from her proud pureblood father.

How would your character fit in to each House?

Slytherin: WELL. If ambitious is her middle-name, then ‘leadership’ should be her family name! Those sides in her personality are definitely very dominating, especially ambitious. Beatrix sets her goals to high and does anything she can to reach it. Even though she would, of course, prefer to reach them with honourable ways, isn't above resorting to other means.

Hufflepuff: Loyalty should be her first name. Really. Her loyalty and sense of duty in canon are actually so strong that she is willing to be blinded by them. She is ready to do anything that she is asked and follow the orders without showing emotions. So yeah, she takes that part to extreme. But as in SH canon there is no need for her to serve anyone or so, these personality traits probably won’t come out as strongly as they do in canon-even though she still possesses them.

Ravenclaw: Well.. Beatrix is intelligent and rational. She would rather listen to the voice of reason instead of her emotions. And depending on the situation she can be quite witty too.

Gryffindor: Courage? Bravery? Nerve? We have it! Beatrix indeed has these qualities. She can be very courageous when needed. And I guess you could say that she has some of that ‘chivalry’ too she was knight in canon, but that is something only one or two people will ever see-and even then it really depends on the situation.

Sample Journal Entry:
'My dear schoolmates;

I can understand that, now the school is over and we all are enjoying from the vacation, you are less inspired to write about such subjects as the coming school year, but I still highly recommend you to watch out for what you decide to write down in these journals. I’m sure that your private life is just fascinating and I bet we all feel honoured about that you are willing to share such information with us.

But be mindful and make sure to keep any inappropriate material out. Just to be fair and make sure that no one would feel uncomfortable or bothered after having listened or read details about your relationships. Otherwise, you might just annoy someone who does not take these things as lightly and will come and remind you about this once the school starts again.

That is all.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:
All the talk and whispering stopped for a moment in the library as the silence surrounded the library while Beatrix walked pass the tables, where the other students were studying. No one dared to even breathe out until she had disappeared behind the bookshelf to return the potion-book, only then they could be sure that she wouldn’t be able to hear their whispering in the library. It was almost miraculous how her mere presence had such effect on others. Of course, it was clear that not all students took this so kindly; even right, there were two girls in the library gossiping:

“Did you see that? Just who she thinks she is?”

“I know! She probably thinks she’s something special just because of her family!”

“You know, I’ve heard that she could get you expelled if you manage to annoy her, and that she could--” the girl didn’t get a chance to finish her line before she was cut off by Beatrix, who had walked behind them.

“Excuse me, young ladies. The library is not a place for gossips, but for studying; so be respectful towards those who are actually trying to make efforts for their studies, and restrain yourselves from unnecessary talking, or then move to somewhere else.” She stared the girls with her only eye and could sense their faces quickly turning to a red out from the embarrassment. Seeing as the girls were not going to give her a proper reply, Beatrix decided to leave.

The same silence followed Beatrix to the hallways of the castle, since no one hardly ever talked to her unless she had addressed them first. But that said silence was interrupted when she came closer to the Charms-class; there was younger girl with black hair sitting on the floor, eyes covered in tears as her school books were scattered all over the floor and stained from the ink.

Beatrix would have normally just told the girl clean the mess up, but noticing that she recognized the girl, she couldn’t help but smile and kneel down to her level while shaking her head. “What is matter?” She asked.

“A-ah! I’m sorry! I will clean this up right now!” the young girl gasped, wiping tears away and started to gather her things. She was trying to be strong, even on the moment when she was weak. This was one of the reasons why Beatrix had grown to be rather fond of this girl lately.

“Never mind that,” Beatrix sighed and placed her hand on the girl’s shoulder. “Now, would you tell me what happened?”

Yes, there were moments when even famous Beatrix the ice-queen would melt down.
