The Department of Health and Human Services is attempting to redefine contraception as abortion. Yes, you read that right. No longer satisfied with the informed medical experts that pregnancy begins at implantation in the uterus, HHS wants to use the nebulous (and untestable) "life begins at conception" definition instead -- because that's what polled highest among the people. Medical definitions based on popular polls, yes, that's a sure-fire way to get the best possible care and coverage to people in need.

So, if life does begin at conception, does that mean that every miscarriage is manslaughter?

Are women who continue to be physically active into pregnancy recklessly endangering the lives of their unborn?

If a pregnant woman decides to have sex, is she committing statutory rape of her unborn child?

What about radical birth control methods, like tubal ligation, vasectomy, or hysterectomy? Are they still acceptable procedures?

Since only one in six eggs ever manages to implant and a quarter of those still miscarry -- often before the mother is aware of her pregnancy -- would that mean God is the largest abortionist around?

Seriously, people. HHS is talking about allowing any federal grant recipient freedom to obstruct a woman's access to contraception. Not simply abortion. Sometimes, I think the only way we'll get over our "religious" leaders dictating moral and civil life for us all, is to have our own religious wars like Europe had in the 1600s. Sure, the Reformation, Counter-Reformation, and Thirty Years' War devastated Europe. But it also discredited every single Church so much that they've never been a political power in Europe since.
