50 years ago today, a San Francisco judge ruled that Alan Ginsburg's poem "Howl" had literary merit, and was therefore not obscene.
Today, San Francisco public radio stations wouldn't air a reading of the poem, fearing FCC "indecency" fines.
Yeah. We're really taking strides.
Thank you damn overreactive puritan "people are sinful and bodies are evil and sex is naughtynaughtynaughty" hypocrites.
Can't air "Howl", but you can discuss sexual assault and rape on the evening news. Yeah, that's a nice balance of "decency".
