even if I've not been posting much of it the past year or so. I need to revive more of the dormant themes of my past blogging.
But today, I offer you the results of yesterday afternoon's conversation with the Interesting Girl:
All of science is reducible to poking things with sticks: 'what happens if I poke it with a stick? if I poke it again? if I poke it harder/softer/with a different stick/badger?' By extension, the humanities and social sciences are about the meaning of poking things with sticks.
The fact that she took this line of discussion with nary a flash of surprise or confusion, but rather encouraging me to flesh out the metaphor, speaks volumes to our well-matchedness, methinks.
