I made my shelf today. Only Josh knows. I clean up well.
I had to make three stops at Lowes throughout the whole thing. First for the original plank of wood that I was just going to put on boxes and call a shelf. But then I thought it would be best if I just put legs on it. It would make more room. So I went back and bought some, but not before I sawed a foot off the plank because I bought a 6 foot plank, but my desk is 5 feet. That part was difficult. A true test to how badly I wanted this. I have never touched a saw before and have hardly seen anyone work with one. I had no idea what I was doing. And it doesn't look as hard as it is. Then, after I primed and painted all of it, I had to go back a third time for nails. You'd think I'd plan ahead, but that is not the way of the JC.
The real, hardset part was nailing it all together. Seriously, how would one properly go about nailing two free standing pieces of wood together? Well, I managed and I can't tell you how; trade secret.
Now the shelf is quickly being stored with clutter. But organized clutter. I realize now it's going to be hard to say goodbye to it years down the road when I have my own place and non-ghetto bookshelves. Because it really is a shoddy remarkable piece of workmanship. I have no idea how, but the legs aren't flat. Like it was cut diagonally but it wasn't. Maybe its the plank because it didn't lie flat. Overall, though. It's not bad for a first timer.
I just wanted to share. Goodnight!
