Evening tea

Sep 10, 2010 20:56

Right now, I'm sitting in the Talbott Inn with a pot of tea, listening to a couple old guys at the bar talking about the Koran burning in Florida (or wherever). Fortunately that didn't happen, but it's interesting what bits of news spark international conversation. I don't even want to think about what would happen if that jerk does anything like that. No wonder people think America's waging a war against Islam (which, we're not, btw). And it's the day the first bomb landed in London, the start of the blitz, apparently. Well, that's what one of the guys at the bar just said.

It's nice and cozy here. We just had dinner (mom, dad and I), and I'm using the wireless. We're in an apartment style place (it's huge! room for 5!) away from the main inn, so I can't go online there. We've been quite busy since Saturday. It's one of those weird timey-wimey things where I feel exhausted like a whole week has gone by, but mentally, it's hard to grasp that it's already been a week. We started hanging out at Cyril's Saturday, Sunday at church and Knole Park (gorgeous trees and deer), Monday in Brighton at the Royal Pavilion and the Pier with lovely fish and chips for dinner. Tuesday was Hever Castle only 1/2 hour from Kemsing, and then we left Kent Wednesday and stopped at Charles Darwin's house (the Down House) on the way to Cirencester. Yesterday we went to Oxford for the day and had a lovely walking tour with an awesome guide. She's the best tour guide I've ever encountered. And we went to the Ashmolean museum, in which I could have spent four or five hours, but only got about 1 3/4. Today we went to Blenheim Palace, which is huge, and I mean huge!

So much has happened, and we still have two weeks left!
