Spliting my personality

Jul 24, 2012 17:43

Around the beginning of the year, I started wondering about using this blog in a more "professional" manner, considering the growth of e-books and what that means to my job security.

I find a great deal of satisfaction in recommending books, and if the physical form disappears (I don't think it will, but I'm hedging my bets) I want to keep that particular joy in my life.

So, I figured that cutting out the personal posts might get me to post more reviews.

Sadly, it led to me posting hardly at all.

So I've decided to take after 17catherines and keep two blogs. "Here" and "There". In the weeks I've been working up to the reveal, I'm more and more convinced it will work. In truth, I'm worried about boring people, and this way, those who want the book stuff can have it, those who want the crazy-Cate stuff can have it, and those who want to cross over can do so.

(Granted, some crazy-Cate stuff make leak into the book blog...but it will be book-related crazy-Cate stuff)

I've decided to use Wordpress for "There", because in developing this "professional" blog, I've already invited friends to write guest book reviews and Wordpress, I feel, is best for this.

In moving the book reviews to "There" I've had to move all my posts and then selectively delete all those that are not book related. This is a blessing in disguise, as it's made me stumble upon so many memories that make me smile. Rest assured, this new blog does not mean I will not be abandoning LJ, or all of the lovely people I've met here. Rather the opposite.

And in truth, I just can't give up my icons.

Since I currently have a paid LJ account, it was but a moment to set up an LJ feed for you lovely people to use for your friends pages: boxesofpaper

What will go Here:
- random recipes (ie: when Cate thinks she can cook)
- squeeing over my opera crushes
- any further Crazy Pimpernel- and/or Opera-Related Trips
- more posts about my city, the happenings therein, and my frustrations therewith
- more stuff about my writing
- more stuff about my most recents attempts to be a grownup

What will go There:
- the book reviews
- more posts about the bookselling business, publishing news, advice to authors, etc.
- more funny customer stories
- more book recommendations ("if you like this book, try that author", "my 5 favourite books about ____", etc.)
- author interviews, when I can get them (those of my LJ friends who are interested, please let me know when you have a book due, or have one just out -- I'll try to contact you at appropriate times, but I confess to more than once missing your publication dates and sheepishly ordering a book three months later).

I hope you will follow me to my new digs

...and also stay here.
