Reservoirs (Day 20 & 21)

Day 20 is here and Day 21 here

Two commentary posts in one, I'm afraid, as I've got quite behind.

Day 20

I wanted this to feel like a romance or a fairytale, but without being too heavy. I also wanted someone for Remus to interact with, hence Angus MacDonald (the name was inspired by a very English student of mine who has an even more stereotypically Scottish name). The Potterverse is full of misfits and I thought it would be nice to introduce another one to act as Remus' guide.

And, yes, three times is the key. The thing is that this is a fairytale, which meant the third time had to be true love, but I was worried about making it too soppy and sentimental. Remus' dread of a long life without Sirius was a very deliberate element and stung to write. Poor boys.

Day 21

This one was supposed to be all about Sirius. The prompt didn't really suit the desert, so I thought I'd go back and do a flashback scene which was all about Sirius. I feel like I've got a stronger grip on the Remus in this storyverse, because it's all from his point of view, and wanted to try to get to grips with Sirius. My past series have been much more evenly balanced in perspective (two days of one, two days of the other, one day of someone else entirely). Of course, this still ended up being more about Remus, the self-absorbed little bugger, but I like the glimpse of Sirius here. He's much less worldly than the Sirius I've written before and I like that - the feeling that he could just vanish at any moment, that he lives each breath as if he's about to be stolen back to another world.

And, well, this story was a bit short on Maraudery mayhem. ^_^
