Yay for updating :-). I'm in chemistry this semester and we have homework everyday that I haven't been doing and don't really want to do right now. I've already maxxed out my days interest in facebook, friendster, and various e-mail so I thought I'd revisit LJ.
My life is pretty good...no drama, pretty cool...I like it. My classes are nice I guess...three of them are revolving around science but I have an outlet in my fourth class. I have chem 102 (gen chem), chem 103 (lab), mcb 150 (molecular and cellular biology), phil 214 (biomedical ethics), and mus 199 (vocal music in an African American context). I'm really excited about this music class. It's only 7 people and its a special undergraduate open seminar plus a discovery class. The teacher is really really amazing. Her name is Dr. Ollie Watts Davis and she's the director of Black Chorus...a really gifted singer who's really fun and enthusiastic. Also, any teacher that comes up to me after class and tells me that she can make me into a good singer after I tell her I'm a beginner is really wonderful in my book. I'm pretty sure it'll end up being my favorite class this semester.
Dance team is getting really hardcore. We just saw our outfits which are going to be a weird combination of orange, blue and this creamy off white color...yeah its weird. We need to start having really tough practices where we actually focus because we need to finish choreographing the dance and make a 2-3 minute videotape. We send the videotape into the judges at Bhangra Fusion to see if we can make it into the competition. I really really hope we make it. I love the dancing part but I'm nervous about the stunts. I'm not twiggy like most of the other girls so I'm doing some hard stunts. The one I learned yesterday: a girl faces me and does a handstand, I grab her legs and wrap them around my neck, I lift her up and turn in circles. It's muy complicated sounding and kinda trying on my back but they said it looks good so I guess I'll take one for the team. We're also having a fundraiser this Sunday.
Hindu Student Council is getting hardcore as well. They put me and this other girl in charge of Hinduism Day so I've been holding meetings and coordinating the presentations of topics. If you people at U of I would like to attend a fun filled evening of religious discussion and exploration, a guest speaker - the Swami from my old Sunday School, please come. It's tentatively scheduled for Feb 9th from 5:30-8:30pm. It's a weekday but doesn't go too late. We're trying to get union rooms a b and c so the location is TBA right now. If you're interested in coming please contact me :-).
Neha is coming this weekend! YAY! She's also coming to U of I for sure next year! Double YAY!
I saw the boy last Sunday...yayness...its a bittersweet thing but I tried every deceptive tactic and got to spend an hour and a half with him (THANK YOU VICKI). He's still the same, it's very sweet. However, the separation is going to be that much harder this time. I was so proud of myself too --- I stopped looking at pictures of him often, I had the "we're just friends" talk all seriouslike, but man...when he called me, I was on cloud 9 all over again...I'm a major dork...there are sooo many boys here at U of I, like good prospects too not just weirdos, and I'm not strong enough to get over this one. The funny part is that we're not officially anything but unofficially everything.
I end this with Krystina, I heart you hehe :-)...my phone card longs for you. And Vicki, thanks for the post card...I love mail from you...it puts a spring in my step.
