I think it's a bad thing that I'm starting to have growing old crises every year on my birthday. 21 is too young to start worrying about getting old. But I've lived more than two decades of my life!!!! I just really need to enjoy my 20s and 30s, I think.
Anyway, yesterday I went to Salt to visit the family of Farha Ghannam--a Swarthmore professor (a bunch of you probably know who I'm talking about. She's from Jordan and her family lives about half an hour to 45 minutes outside of Amman. They picked me up and drove me to their house which is in the hillsides near the town of Salt. It was so beautiful and peaceful--enough to make you contemplate how nice it would be to live there. But probably alittle boring... Anyway, they fed me lunch and stuff, and it was good. And we sat around most of the day. The children there were adorable. It was interesting, because the women all walked around the land unveiled.. Since it's all family around there. (although there were some shepards, I don't know if they were related)
Today I'm planning on spending my birthday working my paper, and then I'm going out to dinner with some friends here. It should be fun, I'm excited. And, Jason, if you're reading this... happy birthday twin!
